Depends on what you use it for and where you use it.
If you use it like you would a desktop a notebook with nice keyboard, large screen is OK. If you like to use it like a tablet/phablet something which offers sufficient 'access' ease (touch, large enough screen, memory, 4G) but can be 'docked' with larger keyboard, screen and the like. If you use it like a fancy mobile phone, buy a mobile phone.

First what do you need the laptop for. skype do you actually process photos, Do you watch movies on the screen. If you process photos this will be the key to what power you want. If you do not I think you could get by quite comfortably with a tablet with a wirless keyboard for what you need Suggest an Intel proceescor and Nvidea card so can miracast for videos and tv on your tv screen. If you are very rich the surface range is great quality and very very portable.

First no Apple products.
I use it for mailing...bit of word stuff...but mostly for music...watching live football when at work in the uk...so 17 inch screen or at least 16 inch is essential....and a bit of gaming when I am bored.

Try this one. With some bells and whistles less than US$ 5000
17.3-inch; 1920-by-1080 or 4K Ultra HD 3840-by-2160 pixels; with optional G-Sync

I would reconsider that 17 in requirement. It interferes with the mobility. A high resolution screen and the ability to cast to a tv or view on an external monitor trumps the big laptop.l

In Thailand I agree...I have a 52 in screen so not an issue but when I am travelling around the UK working its impossible to predict.

Check what a higher quality small screen.....looks like closer than you look at the 17 inch. You may be surprised. You say you want it for work in the UK....why not buy a cheap large monitor there and have it on your desk. A couple of hundred quid will get a good one.

What I use (3 years old) and very happy with. Newer models out now, some less expensive and much lighter than the one I carry
