Mutual funds bullish on stock market
Published: 18/08/2016 at 04:00 AM Newspaper section: Business The Thai stock market's upward trend is expected to continue throughout the second half because of an economic recovery, persistent capital inflows and listed companies' solid earnings, fund managers say. Sectors expected to deliver strong growth are consumer goods, tourism, transport and construction. Thidasiri Srisamith, Kasikorn Asset Management's executive vice-president, said Thailand's economy should show strong growth this year, especially if the government can kick-start big-ticket infrastructure projects, which will indirectly boost consumption. "The SET index has strong support at 1,500 points. Continuing fund flows into emerging markets including Thailand and political stability after the vote in favour of the charter referendum lend support," she sid. However, the prospect of the US Federal Reserve raising rates and China's economic slowdown warrant monitoring in the second half, Ms Thidasiri said.
