No, not Royal Thai.
If you're that curious about it, why not go along and try it?

Thanks for the links...its no more expensive than a Samui Fisherman's Village tourist trap funnily enough and I assume with far superior cooking. I will be dropping by with my gf soon. Cheers!

Might well do next time I am down that way, but cant see myself going out of my way to try it.
My mrs and I will walk by 4 places all serviving the same dish to get to a 5th place selling the same dish, because we feel it tastes better.
I actually enjoy the food in the food court at Paradise Park. Used to enjoy Silom Village on Suk, now long gone. Baan Chan Krun out MinBuri way is another I enjoy.
Overall I prefer Southern food.
One of the best Tom Ka Gai dishes I ever eaten was at a roadside place.

There's nothing farangised about it, and it's certainly not fusion food. It doesn't look like the average Thai menu because they're old and unusual dishes, often taken from recipes from centuries-old cookbooks. Like I said, this isn't about a tarted-up Pad Krapow. A 600 Baht Krapow is something I have to try. I love burgers too and spent 850 Baht on an unremarkable one at Gauchos simply as I want good food...some you win some you lose. Zuma I can wholeheartedly recommend...excellent food across the board.

Bo Lan offers a similar concept, too, in a more old-fashioned, traditional setting. Their tasting menu offers less choices as I remember, but the food is good - they're ex-employees of Thompson.

That karaoke place out on the north side of Pattanakarn I think at 46 or so...damn I should know it as one of the shareholders is a good pal of mine....anyway the pork in red curry sauce is bloody good. For a milder evening the roasted sea bass is also very very good. The karaoke is variable...you might get lucky and hear smokie's version of a Rod Stewart number....

Theres an outdoor place right behing the Rajamngla football stadium that does excellent seafood.
Yes I enjoy a good seabass, pla ka pong sam rot, many times its not the fish thats the problem but the sauces served with it.
Used to enjoy the place right on the corner of Pattanakarn soi 30, now long gone.

Used to be my 4-6 pm watering hole while I waited for her who must be obeyed to finish work. It used to be roasting in there...apart from my little spot with the fan swishing over me....perfect bar...no twats ever.

There is a lot of variance though between the sauces from plaice to plaice, like you say

It used to be right on the front of Pattanakarn 30, I used to turn right at the Shell station, but they closed the turning off, have to go all the way to the U turn bridge, when you turned left at 30 it was right there. One of those old wooden places with the catfish ponds. You must have been leaving as I was arriving, used to get there about 6 in the evening, waiting for the mrs finishing work and getting the song taew from Klong Tan. As mentioned above, great little place and no twats. Be aware of gypo estate agents types offering land for sale in that area, a friend just bought land for 75k baht per tw, have seen it offered elsewhere for 100+++k per tw.

If I want to eat fish I go and eat salmon. I see a lot of these places having adverts saying fresh fish rather than farmed fish, after half a dozen Leos and the fish being grilled and zapped with some sauce I cant tell the difference. Guess I am just too LoSo to know the difference.

Yeah I see your point rgs and I agree, once you have some rich flavourful sauce on there it doesn't really matter.
I don't fancy trying pla chon though, they probably come out of the chao phraya, shitloads of them in there

Never mind what comes out the mair naan, you want to see what they are fishing out of klong saan saep. I can eat most things, but cant be doing with these bony fish, a bit like crab (which I love) too much effort for too little taste. I cant eat squid (ปลาหมึก) tastes like rubber bit dried squid I can eat all day long, perfect beer food.
