Reading yet another report of drunk airline passengers causing problems - to me the part-solution is to impose an automatic flying ban just as drunk driving = an automatic ban.
I believe it is currently illegal to be drunk on an aircraft, but a sensible and fair blind eye is turned to people ( me included ) that have a few drinks without incident. Long may that continue.
I know that individual airlines can ban passengers - but is it time for courts to impose a blanket flying ban on drunken, disruptive passengers?
One year sounds fair - with an alert attached to the persons passport. If said passenger presents at check-in, then immediate arrest for attempting to fly while disqualified. Back to court for an extended ban. Same same for a second offence.
Equip the airlines with police calibre breathalysers. If the aircraft touches down in a foreign country the local police can witness a trained hostie testing the passenger. They can also run a local test to verify the result.
Sound fair?

Why would you breathalyse anyone on a plane bar the staff?
They are doing nothing wrong and in fact maybe banning pubs and alcohol in departure lounges would make more sense.
There take that you4 bletherence! ???

The guy is supposed to be educated but as soon as drink is mentioned he babbles like a fool.

* Note to self - "If you ever find yourself on the same flight as blether don't play up on the p**s." No, seriously I agree with you blether, I hate people who fly drunk and cause problems. Have seen too many of them flying between Bangkok and Brisbane, effin idiots the lot of them. I never drink on the plane or before the flight. I don't even drink the night before because there is nothing worse than flying hungover.

Also had a few legenday sessions on the A380. BUT - I behave. There's no punishment in a single airline ban - they'll just fly with someone else.

My peeve is dress sense. I could happily sit next to someone who has had a few (providing that they were behaved) but do not enjoy sitting next to someone in Khaki shorts, flip flops and a beer Singha wife beater vest. FFS, put in a little bit of effort, you don't need a suit but a collar and tie wouldn't kill you.

To be fair I think a few have felt uncomfortable, underdressed - maybe be upgraded and caught out. I always travel with a change of clothes in my carry on. One reason being in case there's a spillage, another being a freshen up, but the obvious one is in case my bags get lost. Happened three times in the past year. Good news is that I've dropped 100 pounds in weight since last August - getting close to off the peg shopping again.

Oh so you don't like it when some fat slob clad in a Chang wifebeater reaches up to get a bag from the overhead locker above you and flashes his big hairy sweaty armpits ? I don't either and those tossers are on my hit-list (I have a list of losers I would top for free if I was a world famous professional hitman)
