Imagine one the best party destinations of the planet is down for a full year. Seems logical reveling folk will find somewhere else to grope, vomit, and break glass. Not much different than a popular pub or restaurant shutting down for remodeling and getting tied up with unfaithful contractors until so much time lapses the constituency gets settled in four blocks up the same street.

Will Thailand's welcoming of foreigners go cold? Or is that even possible? Best of luck.

I think you're on to something.  A forum full of vanilla can't go the distance.  If you consider facebook forumesque it'd be a good example.  Since you may choose your friends (members), the choice is yours.  If you don't like what they have to say you wouldn't have accepted them in the first place.  I can bear any differences with my facebook friends.  As long as they don't mention God or Republican bullshit.  In that case they're outa there.  Fitting though isn't it .. politics and religion.

The day a forum starts banning folks for their personality, opinions, attitudes, is the day the forum's failing starts.  

AJF had it's fair share of Baskin and Robbin's vanilla-only-flavor members.  But it didn't start that way.  The constant "improvements" took their toll.  Remove the pub?  That's where the disagreements were.  That's where the rubber met the road, the grit, alternate flavors.  The forum might as well had gone Christian.

Forum people too often see the devil's advocate as trolling; bending the laser beam of like kinds.

Men who have never served in the military missed two important features of life; to eat your ego and do what you're told for the ultimate survival of all, to live in a hooch (military housing) as one of 40 people born and raised in places you never knew existed, guys who had never seen an escalator or a blind-assisted crosswalk.

My personal goal at this stage of life is to be 180 degrees from Donald Trump.  

 

"He pulled the plug." As we do after washing the dishes. Until yesterday I hadn't clicked on to AF for quite a while, or any forum for that matter. I wasn't interested enough to go through the AF posting to discover who was saying what during that lapse, I don't teach, I don't live in Thailand. But over the years I noticed many times there were always 10X more visitors than members viewing posts. It was a damn good resource for teachers. And too, it helped many of us in the maintenance of our sanity. Or, in some cases, contributed to our insanity.
