I might be a bit slow but exactly what is it you are promoting ? Nothing in particular. I just enjoy traveling and making travel videos as a hobby. Naturally, as anyone who has a creative hobby would, I want people to watch them. I will admit, they're getting kinda repetitive. They're all the same basic format. I am actively thinking about how to make them different, however. I am actively thinking about how to make them different, however.
I saw that erupted on a tombstone in Hollywood. I can't comment on them cause I've never been able to sit through one. But I'd say, being born and raised very near Hollywood, the presentation is only as good as its principal. Just to shoot a vid is the base. Then to voice-over complicates the variables. But when you put yourself IN the vid the existing variables of its being quality work is astronomical. Michael Moore is hard to look at. But there is so much substance in his films the viewer over-looks the grotesque. Now a young handsome well-spoken reporter can cover a chicken farm fire and it's on the 6 o'clock news. So then the components of quality film shooting are probably: What you aim your camera at, is anybody interested? How well you express yourself, not enough room to list all that entails. How you look, body language, facial expression, body posture, movements, gestures .. all the shit one learns in charm school.

I try to design my vids for those with really short attention spans. Pandering to the modern mindset. Two second clip lengths. Mixing a video effect now and then. If you can't finish one of my vids, you need some Adderol. Certainly where one was born makes one an expert on that region's specialty. Me, for instance, I was born in Milwaukee, consequently I am an expert on beer. As for the quality of the principal, I may be a fat old guy, but I've always thought that my presentation was one of the strengths of my vids. That Mallon fellow who vlogs about Thailand.. now he's a real bore.

Yes, how you perceive yourself has about 1% validity compared to how others perceive you. No one is everything to everyone. If I were to engage in your hobby and really wanted to improve I'd Google, famous quotes and axioms from the rich and famous screen actors, producers, directors and artists, and bone up.

the videos, if anything, have really good pace to them. sometimes tedious about the topic..."look, a street, and oh, a bucket!" :-P but they are certainly entertaining and 3 min blows by.

OK, I watched the, On The Road To ... vid cover to cover. once.
The 2 second shots of various people was okay.
I would have liked to have heard people talking, what the language sounds like.
Artisans at work would have been nice, guy carrying a Coke machine didn't do it. Like old women weaving spitting beetle nut, children being bathed in a tub. Pay people to act things out, like arguments and such, families being served supper. Put your camera down and plan for 15 minutes before shooting.
Over-forced enthusiasm in the voice, like a baseball announcer trying to ad drama to a no-hitter.
Under edited. There's lots you could have done without. There's a rule in Art, don't hide it. make it show. Another is, never let anyone see your mediocre work. Photography is a good example, take 100 shots to get one. The rest go in the bin
Maybe dress a little better.
Watch Apocalypse Now, the original uncut, and the much more popular edited version. They edited out some really good scenes. Good but not good for the flow of the film. Editing is a must, and it's definitely an art. And people who do it earn millions.
Did I learn anything about Burma? A little.

Joko, I like to read threads in reverse which is what I've done here as I always do (this comment is after watching the videos), similar to the Chinese and Arabs reading from right to left.
Your videos are of good content, the short clips are good also, it holds interest and flows.
Forget the anamorphic lens and steadycam in this regard.
Just post more vids..what is your blog address?

Rule #1 Know your gear inside out Eule #2 Understand light, its rule #1 but if you don't know your gear... Are you for real? Is there a pro photographer who doesn't know his gear, who never heard of Ansel Adams and the Zone System? What are some of the most famous photos ever taken? Like the Afghan girl, for example. Do you think that photographer arrived on the scene with one roll of film? How about war-time photojournalists of yore, think they go out in the field with one roll of film? No, they ship kilos of film canisters to their photo studios back home on a regular basis. The editors select the best of them - which is nothing more than a short list - then choose the best one, given it's not a photo essay. And best of all, nature photography. Those guys hind out in blinds waiting for days, weeks. months for a top shot. Do you think any photos were taken during that time except for the one or two you see in NatGeo? If you want to up your post count why not post smilies on threads?
