My missus got four black polo shirts for 200 baht today.
All from the black dye man who pedals round the soi's banging his tambor and with a charcoal fired boiler on the back of his bike full of prepared black dye.

Just a question as I am not familiar with what is a respectful period of mourning in Thailand, how long will people wear the black to mark respect?

...spouse, a government official, says mourning guidelines suggest white is the new black for the office...so: white shirts and black bottoms (as it were) are acceptable for grief displays...

Black, white, or grey is considered acceptable clothing. Bars have been asked to close over the w/end as a mark of respect.

Black, white, or grey is considered acceptable clothing. It really is very confusing. White is more traditional, whilst black for mourning is an European influence. However, there's also a tradition that white for mourning is for younger people, whilst black is for the elderly. Also, where does pattern fit into this? I'm not sure that a checker-board shirt is suitable in these days.

My Mrs, who is frequently wrong, suggests wear white is more of "chinese thai thing" while black is more of a " thai thai" thing, either is acceptable
