I am a little wary of Tapatalk as it does seem prone to hacking and seems to have a poor security record.
Postak aka kvothe now banned member exploited those flaws and did a fair bit of damage to the ajarn .com site in the past, perhaps we should tread carefully?

Yes I fully agree caution is advisable. I think we need to assess how relevant such potential exploits are.
I suggest to continue our the discussion via PM or members only forum.

Don't know how much credibility to give to this rather boastful account, but some aspects seem very real.
I have just read on two different admin boards that the app was involved in various incidents: eg (i) sending PMs impersonating admin users (ii) obtaining user's email addresses
This was within the last year. We have no real means asserting whether this has been successfully resolved, esp since this is not open source.
Considering this, I'd say lets not bother with it and of course an extra pint for Siampolee for his wise approach! Cheers!

The most amusing part if you all didn't know, was Topper left his password of donkey1 on the vBulletin forum support when he was asking for help with Tapatalk with the now defunct SZ. The TD admin got it and had a field day with it. 555 He got called an ass a lot after that gaffe.

I think this has to do with a two week changeover period from freeforums.net to boards.net. That would explain it. I take it you registered initially as freeforum.net and later changed to boards.net. Another point about SP's concern: As the Big Mango uses proboard software, the security issue might not be entirely relevant. If I understand this correctly, tapatalk interacts directly with pboard (pboard is one of the few open source ones). It uses the pboard's native language. Hence there is nothing one needs to install. This is different with the myriad of other board software. They require a third-party plug-in to install that allows communication between the app and their board. This seems to be the vulnerability, I gather. But I'm only guessing... All the cases I saw (including arjarn's powered vBulletin) did not involve pboard. Caution is still advisable. I think it would be worthwhile to ask for advise on the pboard support forum. |

Well going by your post above Morakot,I'm happy to accept the fact that we are a darn sight more secure with Tapatalk than I feared and understood.
However as you say it would be wise to exercise caution, all programmes and systems are man made hence another man can crack another mans programes and so the game goes on

Remember though this particular app (Tapatalk) is renowned as a wonderful entry door for the hacking community to any site that Tapatalk is installed on or in.
It is a hackers master pass key in many respects to any site the hackers may wish to attack or and destroy.
