The Turnbull government's move to ban all asylum seekers who come by boat from ever setting foot in Australia has triggered dismay from refugee advocates and satisfaction from One Nation as the opposition comes under immediate pressure to support the legislation. In an escalation of an already hard-line immigration policy, asylum seekers detained on Manus Island or Nauru from July 19, 2013 onwards would be ineligible for any sort of Australian visa – including for tourism, business or family reasons – for the rest of their lives. It includes those deemed to be genuine refugees and any who chose to return to their home country. Children, whether they arrived unaccompanied or with parents, will be exempt. The announcement paves the way for a potential deal to resettle refugees in New Zealand or the US while allowing the government to guarantee that no such person will ever settle in Australia. www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/opinion-divided-as-government-seeks-lifetime-ban-on-asylum-seekers-entering-australia-20161030-gsdxsb.html

So does that mean that the 1951 Refugee Convention, which was signed by 144 State parties including Australia, means nothing ?

I can sympathize with that, very little land space on the continent. Y'all are like sardines.

Y'all are like sardines. England fits into Australia something like 59 times and has three times the population of Australia. The biggest issue in Australia's case (they say) is keeping the water up to a huge population. (htf do they do it in the UK) ? Even though the population rises every year with over 100,000 migrants entering the joint every year. This latest decision has nothing to do with anything except keeping the rednecks happy and winning their votes. One of the main reasons I hate living there these days and don't even want to go back for a visit. Racism is getting out of control and is destroying what used to be a great country.

I've always been interested in the Aboriginal folk. Every time I meet an Aussie I ask about them. The answer is always the same; Donno mate, never talked to one.

The move is to stop the people smugglers and human traffickers. This is not about racism. It's about stopping illegal immigration.
I'm for it. I'm no racist or redneck either but who wants thousands of boat people landing in Oz leaching on the system fawk that. Have you any idea how much this costs the taxpayers? You've got poor Bob and Marge working all their lives to get a shitty pension then there's Abdul or Adhi getting everything for free. Similar to opening the floodgates to displaced Muslims who needs that also? If people want to go and settle in Oz do it by the book, legally. These people taking risks to get into Oz illegally and the traffickers who are preying on them should be stopped. Indo is not at war, these asylum seekers simply want a better life.

I spent years working and living with them in the NT and in the Kimberly district in northern WA. Great people to work with, very talented and resourceful. Made a lot of good friends amongst them. I was mainly involved in earthmoving, cutting seismic lines in the desert for oil and gas exploration. Was also doing roadworks in QLD and NT. Unfortunately the majority of the Aboriginal people that the whites do know are the ones living in the cities and towns, away from their natural environment. Much like judging a family of Eskimos living in the ME.

^^ But y'all arrived there as prisoners. England couldn't be arsed with you. Then the missionaries arrived and literally fvcked up the native culture. I know the story too well. It has to do with hand axes.
So lets compare my ugly nation with yours. Brits came to the US as religious refugees. Later on, under expansion, fvcked over the natives. They are still fvcked over, and so are yours. Pretty much the same, eh?
Because y'all were excommunicated from England you couldn't have stayed there. The Pilgrims could have stayed in England and lived a persecuted life but chose not to. That's the only fundamental difference I can see.
From what I know, Australia has welcomed immigrants as homesteaders at a time when they were needed. The US has accepted millions as they were needed and for those escaping religious or political turmoil even death. And now all those Muzzies are en route, but not without redneck resistance.
Here's how I would conclude: We have rednecks, you have rednecks, you have more (per capita). And economics plays a large part. We have more money than you, or better, more money we are willing to spend on the issue.

I've read lots of stats on drinking. They seem to change, but I can see Aussies as party people without straining my brain. Mexico just passed Merka on obesity, but we still lead in bestiality

I haven't had a drink for three weeks, and I bet a lot of our fellow members cannot say that (we are going to a housewarming party today, mate of mine from Melbourne and his lovely Thai wife) plan on knocking over a few small bottles of San Miguel, just be sociable.

I am sure there is a genetic link between alcohol and racism. If you watch the racist scum when they are on the drink, their necks get redder as they consume more booze.
