^^^ What's he on about? Lost me. I was attempting to explain living on the edge, of not being insane .Aware of the boundary, experiencing without losing self. Not becoming a creation of the fantasy. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

As a teacher you let children explore their imagination, read fantastic stories to them. As have all generations. In other words one lies to them. When I was about 7 or 8 I read a book in class about spacemen visiting Venus. Being a child I'd assumed it was true because it was in a book (much like adults now seem to believe any old claptrap because it's on the Internet). It was only several years later I realised I'd been lied to. But then the other fantastical stories are indoctrination in the name of religion: some Jew walking on water, turning water into wine, raising the dead; some Arabic nutter riding a flying donkey, believing that a non-existent deity spoke to him, and being visited by flying angels. All lies, and all child abuse. Time to start telling the truth.

Did you mean this?
The second letter explains that Jekyll, having previously indulged in unstated vices (and with it the fear that discovery would lead to his losing his social position) found a way to transform himself and thereby indulge his vices without fear of detection. But Jekyll's transformed personality, Hyde, was effectively a sociopath—evil, self-indulgent, and utterly uncaring to anyone but himself. Initially, Jekyll was able to control the transformations, but one night in August, he became Hyde involuntarily in his sleep.

Better to explore truth through art and find your own truths.

AyG, I prefer not to be a robot. I like imagination, it is the essence of the individual.

Hey, fictional books......just to be accurate. Your contention is that seven year old's shouldn't read fiction because it's lies? And you've gone through your adult life into your dotage holding this grudge? Who the fork do you think you are?

^^ Wild absurdity.
A grown British man complaining about a fictional book he read seventy years ago.

I like to read books as an adult....as a kid I was never out of the library....having a vivid imagination and the tools to allow it to flourish is a wonderful thing. The Walts of this world are not great bookworms....they see with their eyes and try to live out their bizarre fantasies whilst we sit back with a mug of tea and explore the realms of our imagination.

Whoa , "I like to read books as an adult....as a kid I was never out of the library....having a vivid imagination and the tools to allow it to flourish is a wonderful thing.
The Walts of this world are not great bookworms....they see with their eyes and try to live out their bizarre fantasies whilst we sit back with a mug of tea and explore the realms of our imagination."
There the power of books, imagination. Great stuff ; I believe Smokie came from a humble background, I also believe his imagination was fired by FICTION, to be the person able to write the beautiful prose quoted.

Bleth, honour your close friend by quoting him , the preface to your next work of fiction.

Do you remember when you first became aware of self? For me , I can say between eleven and twelve years old. I hit puberty early. I became a rebel. The nice kid went crazy. Sure there were the years before, even now I recall them. But something happened. I was myself and bugger any one trying to tame me. A quiet rebel, a not in your face rebel. A seething pool of anger, frustration. Sure that is normal, perhaps, for puberty, but I was beyond the normal. All around me could see it, the teachers saw it.I knew too much, was far too precocious. Girls were terrified of me, they saw the danger.I loved them and the frustration increased. Then a settling period,a close friend, female, not my girlfriend managed to help me. I suppose we were like brother and sister, so close, but not lovers. Her friend was my girl friend at the time.
Interesting delving back.
So, when did you become self?
