Have filtered water, one of those carbon devices. I suspect our Bangkok water is absolutely drinkable, but who knows. I drink it sometimes, no problem. A substitute for beer. Now there is a fact; why alcoholic drinks were the norm, much safer.
The othe safe way is boiling the water, hence tea and coffee. Flavoured water.

I've no idea why the OP expected it to be any cheaper than that.

50 Baht A Bottle Of Water? Absolutely right to be outraged. You're being farmed. The appropriate response is to fling the water from your glass into the face of your waitperson. It will be a bracing experience for them, and your message will be clear. Rubbish ! The poor guy bringing the water has nothing to do with the pricing, he only waits on tables. Unless the person dining is so important that the owner is waiting on them, which I doubt very much. If someone did such a thing to a waiter and I was at the same table they would receive a "bracing experience".

It's fine as long as the water goes over their head.

For my last night in BKK last week I met a friend in The Kiwi- nice beer and the general atmosphere and decor in the pub was excellent. The food was below average- no flavor. Their excuse of a pie was a sorry one indeed.

You truly thought I was sincerely recommending throwing water in a waiter's face, did you.

I've no idea why the OP expected it to be any cheaper than that. Based upon years of drinking in Thai pubs. And no other pub I've been these last few days was more than 35 baht.

I can't say I've ever paid much attention to how much a bottle of water costs.
After all, you know what they say - look after the pennies, and everyone will think you're a tightarse.

I've always found that it's people who have no money that are most wasteful with money. Oxymoron, much? Think about it.

That's why a lot of them have no money, what little they have had has been wasted. I have found the best way to waste money is to buy something just because it is cheap. It is cheap for a reason, because it is crap and won't last long and you will have to replace it soon after, which means you should have paid a bit more for a better quality one in the first place.
This does not apply to bottled water which is a giant scam.
I did some reading about Coca Cola Amatil recently about where their profits are coming from. They will soon be making more money from their bottled water than from their fizzy drinks. What a joke !
I am sure there are places in Australia charging as much for water as the local bottle shop is charging for beer !

If anyone thinks Thailand is getting as expensive as the UK - trying buying a bottle of water in a UK motorway service station.

If anyone thinks Thailand is getting as expensive as the UK - trying buying a bottle of water in a UK motorway service station. Yes, very good. Try to justify your position by selecting the most notoriously expensive retail outlets in the UK. At the current exchange rate, I had a pint of lager last week in a Scottish four star hotel that cost 130 baht. Recently in Notting Hill, a pint was 180 baht. Yesterday, on Sukhumvit, a pint of Heineken was 170 baht. Scrambled eggs and toast, 220 baht. I couldn't believe it. The difference between most of your good selives and me is that I see the pricing in the UK, In Europe, and recently in Mexico. On a side note - airside shops at British airports are charging 130 baht for two soft drinks. So two bottles of Cola, Oasis. The restaurant in question re OP was 60 baht for a small bottle of soda water. Absurd.
