You know you might get a surprise. Here I am 27-28 years ago as part of an escort on a train carrying as I recall some nasty ordinance. Yes I love railways and I have a link via an operation we ran concerning some characters in the Willesden area who were on the railway and had attracted our attention for a number of reasons.I even belong to railway orientated site(s) too. Attachment DeletedImage two . A Gricer, so beloved by railway personell

Attachment DeletedNow here is the professional ''Gricer'' A class 47 if you are not aware is a locomotive. See below 2 images !! Image No. 2 shows a badly damaged 47 involved in a mishap in 1981, thankfully no one was hurt and the loco was rebuilt and returned to service. 47190 is little different from the standard class 47, other than possessing a later rebuilt cab as the locomotive suffered a considerable crash in 1981 which completely destroyed one end of the locomotive. The cab was subsequently re-built at Crewe works, the flush marker panel without indentation at the front being the obvious indication.

Indeed, this is the age of the train.

Sounds as if you need to go to India and try the Darjeeling toy train and the OOty cog railway even though it only uses steam on a little bit of it now. Warning....take earplugs on the Darjeeling train as it blows it's piercing high pitched whistle about 1000 times a trip. If you chose the right time of year you can wear your anarak for that.

Sarajevo to Mostar is one of the most scenic train routes in the world. It's also worth getting an hour or so early to the station Sarajevo and making new friends in the bar, it's a friendly place full of characters. I LOVE getting into Budapest by train, when I hear that little jingle on the announcement system I know it's holiday time.

Totally addicted to browsing this site:http://seat61.com/ Have a thing for sleeping compartments. The dining cars in Romania are surprisingly good given the lack of investment in the rails over there. Trans Siberian is amazing as it sounds, I went third class for around 600 quid. Cheaper than a flight to the Russian far east at the time (2004)

It is a nice ride on a motorcycle along the railside track there too from Sarajevo to about 10km north of there. Or it was about 40 years ago. A person we met there told us about it... even had extra tunnels we could drive through so we did not meet a train

Alas they were all on an old FB account that got hacked. Will message a girl I met there, perhaps she has some snaps of our night in Sarajevo. What struck me about both Bosnia and Serbia was how welcoming and open both countries were. All the shelled out building were a grim daily reminder of the past. The local grub was great:
