So the cops shouldn't have said we're watching you before they left Australia? Or let them return with it then bust them? So it's all fine to tip off Indonesian police knowing the death sentence would be likely? Where's the duty of care? Duty of care for drug trafficking scum, none whatsoever. Burn them. In Singapore drug traffickers are hanged and families notified afterwards.

Ask yourself this. Was that the first time these boys went overseas? If not, where did they go each time they went overseas? How many times? Why? How come the AFP knew about what these boys were up to? Were they being watched? What Information had come to light that made these boys targets? How was that I formation obtained and why? There's a million and one questions I would be asking before I offered up comment about what happened about this. Some of the information is available in the public domain. Things happen for a reason, mostly. I am a bit less against the death penalty than some though with it there is no going back and too often the poor and innocent are the ones who recieve it. In this case I have little doubt that they did do it. I however do feel that it was done at least in part to gain a higher penalty. A little like an old AFP friend (before they were the AFP who sometimes told me that they were going to get someone but could not get a warrent yet as the JP that would give one with what they had was not available till the next day. OK there is a very slippery slope between knowing someone is guilty and making someone guilty and sometimes that slope has been crossed.

The death penalty is in my view a barbaric practice, however the fate suffered by the now deceased was a lot quicker and far less painful than the death penalty they were happy to dish out to drug addicts.
The activities the deceased smugglers, mules whatever one cares to call them were involved with are and were nothing less than premeditated systematic murderers, the sad fact is that the victims ( the drug users) finance their own murders.
The laws concerning narcotics in Indonesia are known, the same applies to other countries regarding narcotics, their use their supply and the penalties if caught on the wrong side of the law.
Yes I feel sorry or the families, yes I feel I feel sorry for the victims too, however the risks were known and those risks were taken.
Indeed it is said''laws are made to be broken.''
But the actions of those executed prove very clearly ''every action has a consequence.

Australia's ambassador to Indonesia has this morning been recalled 'for consultation'. -ABC News The annoying thing for me is that the media is trying to portray some of these people as "brave hero's" dying with dignity etc, bullshit they are convicted drug dealers

I have heard all that I have found god from those awaiting conviction
One case sticks in my mind.
I was a prosecution witness in a matter that was up before the judge at the Old Bailey.
The defendant was a professional blagger in fact one of the last old time pavement artists. His defense QC made his final speech and wove into that speech the fact that his client had found the lord and was becoming an avid bible student. .
The judge in his summing up prior to sentencing defendant remarked how refreshing it was to see such a hardened professional criminal coming to the lord.
His (the judge) final sentences are still in my mind.
''As you ********* have found the ways of the lord I intend to take that matter into account and assist you in your studies, therefore I am sentencing you to 15 yrs imprisonment thus that time will indeed be of great use to you in learning about and following the lords teachings.''
The comments from the convicted felon as he was taken down were indeed very far removed from the language one would have expected to hear from such a new and devout Christian.

In many places around the word, people like this would be in hospital and not in prison or dead.
Condolences to their families and friends.

There appears little doubt that the two Aussies were deep into the Narcotics trade, and it was probably a nice lucrative earner while the going was good. They full well knew the implications if they got caught, but like many involved greed is a far stronger pull.
I haven't read so much about the African smugglers, but certainly in the case of Veloso and Gularte, there is certainly some exceptions that should have been taken into account. Veloso lives to fight another day, but the trauma that she must have gone through in the last few dyas will be hard to carry for her - in fact the way it was done was certainly cruel. I do hope that her case is reviewed fully, as the info presented makes it look like she was truly naive and certainly not knowing of what she was carrying, or had even been paid for it. Gularte should never have even been in a jail cell, given his mental condition. Indonesia putting a mentally ill person to death is a discgarce, but then the US do it fairly frequently to.
It will be interesting to see if Sandford the British lady is next up, another complex case; where it appears the actual kingpin has managed to avoid the death penalty and is being well looked after in an Indo jail.
End of the day, there are no winners in this, sadly another one will take their place, and as I type this, I am sure there maybe numerous mules in the process of moving stuff across borders, chancing their arm, hoping for a pay day. People should remember the horrors of the drug trade, and the misery it brings to millions across the world, not just the users, but families and societies.
Better narcotics policy is desperately needed, but it needs to be unified across the world.

For every eight executed plying the drug trafficking trade, thousands are out there participating and not getting the rap for it. From the big fish drug lords, middle men, down to the drug mules and ultimately the real victims: the users/addicts and their families.

Defamation perhaps? I'm not sure. Makes me wonder though how the media knows who he is?
I bet he sleeps peacefully at night the sick bastard.
