Is it wrong to unfriend or unfollow people I disagree with? After Donald Trump was elected, I removed people on Facebook and Twitter to avoid upsetting myself. Am I part of the problem? Q: On Facebook and Twitter I unfriend or unfollow people I don’t agree with to avoid upsetting myself. Is this wrong and am I part of the problem that ended with Trump? A: After the disaster of the US election, the answer to this question is supposed to be yes – yes, you must follow people you don’t agree with; yes, you are part of the problem unless you toughen up and engage with the Other Side. If opposing views upset you, you are either weak-minded and vulnerable to manipulation by bigots or locked in your liberal echo chamber, where the only possible explanation for why Trump won the election is that people in general are idiots. As it happens, I do think you should follow people you don’t agree with, but not because it will broaden your mind on the issues. After the election, an oft-cited source by those discussing the filter bubble was a blog post by a 25-year-old called Kelly, from North Carolina. Under the heading Why I’m Voting for Donald Trump it began: “I am a white female. A victim of sexual abuse. A Republican. A Christian.” It was shared 1.5m times on Facebook and it didn’t pop up on my feed because no one I know, nor anyone whom I know knows, is plugged into those networks. Given the number of people who get their news mostly from Facebook (nearly 50% of adult Americans, according to the most recent research), this is how large swathes of the population come to live in total blackout from each other. That is true within its limits but fails to register the following: I read the post just now and Kelly’s reasons for voting for Trump were because he’s “pro-life” and he’s “a businessman not a politician” – which did not make me think, oh, OK, there’s another side to this argument, but made me think, god, people are idiots. www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/mar/24/unfriend-unfollow-political-views-digital-dilemmas

Step 1. Delete Facebook account
Step 2. Only read FunnyTweeter.com
Step 3. Sleep soundly

Face Ache and Twatter, you are the problem, you are a sheep.
1, set up face ache account. 2, go to some upmarket resto and post worthless selfies of you are your equally worthless hello kitty type mates eating sea food. 3, in about 1,000 years anthroplogist types will be wondering what happened to the human spine, head bent towards the right hand side, a phone placed between head and shoulder, in years to come people will come to gaze at this new species, same same long neck. 4, walk round shopping malls etc with your head stuck in a phone (instead of up yer ass) and wonder why you keep bumping into people. 5, sit in a free a/c mall and pout and pose taking worthless selfies to send to your equally worthless mates.
Pathetic.

^^^What I find a lot of people tend to do, is during a conversation everything has to be shown via the medium of the phone, everything has to be searched for and put on display.
Even if you've already seen it or heard it before you have to suffer hearing it again through some tinny ass speaker

Lots of family on facebook. That's why I log in to look when I get a mail that there are 100 updates since last I visited FB. May read some, probably only use 'mark all as read' Twitter account? Have one, as good as new although registered in April 2010. Any bidders? BM, two followers. One sadly passed away 1-1/2 year ago, the other is a wizard one should not upset

I log into face ache to keep up to date with family and friends. Rarely comment, only to best friend, as he will not misinterpret. Have enough trouble on mango where i find my utterances are taken the wrong way. All face ache confirms to me is, thank goodness i do not live such a pathetic life.

Facebook is a superb tool. The folk that moan about it don't know how to use it, for example, how to unfollow people.
Last Saturday night a friend was involved in a motorcycle crash in Vietnam. He's in a coma. Within hours, a Facebook messenger group was set up with 30 friends and family.
The British based contingent were clueless as to what to do.
Within 24 hours, with a Vietnam based expat taking the lead, one guy flew in from Chiang Mai with the guys legal paperwork. I referred the guys son to his bank manager and British embassy. The Brits helped fund his sons flight out.
A Facebook appeal saw two Vietnamese pals turn up to translate. We have no need for a GoFundMe campaign as the guy involved is not skint and his British lawyer is dealing with accessing funds. By the time the lawyer contacted the bank manager, he was already aware as the son had been in.
Let me ask you - what would have happened without the joint expertise of the Facebook messenger group?

Back to the OP.
Echo chambers are terrible things. You learn nothing from talking to like minded folk. You need to listen to the opposing view.

Some of us travel with proper insurance, some of us know better than to ride motocys in banana republics. Was the guy involved riding a motocy with no insurance? In a coma, no offence, but I hope someone somewhere has the right to unplug him, otherwise he will be nothing more than a cash cow.

In a coma, no offence, but I hope someone somewhere has the right to unplug him, otherwise he will be nothing more than a cash cow. He has insurance and is well off. He had given all his necessary details to a friend in CM who flew down. His son is there with him now. Re the motorcycle thingy. Chances are I'll end up being wiped out on my motorcycle. That'll be fine. We all have our own risk assessments. My biggest risk is going down with a heart attack or stroke, even though I've dropped ten stone in weight. The guy involved is single, we'll traveled, we'll funded and in his late sixties. He's having a real go at life.. Knowing him ( and like me ) he'd swap five years of life for ten years of sitting on his arse staring at the winter rain pouring in.
