We have all heard the joke about the three nuns, a Scotsman and two Dutchmen who walked in to a bar.. But did Jesus ever walk into a bar? How about Captain Cook? I was actually surprised at how recent bars are. I would have thought they went back millions of years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar

I was genuinely surprised. I haven't googled it, but I guess alcohol goes back a while. But bars are a resent concept.

I was actually surprised at how recent bars are. I would have thought they went back millions of years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BarDoes that article actually state how long they've existed? Before what we call bars arose, there were houses which converted their front parlour into a drinking space, often referred to as "Old House at Home". And before that there were taverns (serving wine) an inns (serving beer). In the 14th century King Richard II legislated inn signs, so they were certainly around then. And even earlier the Romans had their taverns. Even Noah became drunk and exposed himself - probably at some watering hole or other (Genesis 9:21). So, such places went back almost to the creation of the universe in 4004 BC. Not quite "millions of years", but close.

Maybe they are referring to mars bars. Is that a Mars bar? No, it's a Milky Way.

Bars are recent, they were a labour saving invention which meant instead of sitting down and getting served the customer had to do the work of going to the bar and waitresses lost their jobs.

Rubl prefers to drink in brown cafes with <BBQ>. My level of tolerance increases when others pay my bar bill. There is a limit though

Long while back was in Stoke on Trent and the open house, public house still existed. Norwich too had public houses on every corner. Bangkok still does, the corner shop.
