Already have a shack there on the north coast in a hamlet called Weymouth. Nice place but gets a bit too cold.

Same same isaan, . No way. Have you seen property prices in Hobart these days? Tasmania used to be a cheap place to buy and then it became a trendy place to live. Boom. Prices went through the roof.

Can I just say -
I'm a strong proponent of not denying your kids of what made you.
The kids can vacation for months in Thailand, but they have to be educated in Oz, and subsumed in the culture and opportunities presented.
It's mental to deny your kids a western education and the ability to make more money in a month than many Thais do in a year. Mental.
You birthed them, you give them the best of both worlds, and when the youngest turns 18, feel free to move to Thailand. As adults, they can do the same. Until then, stand your ground.
Get as strong as possible in Australia, cos your strength in Australia will dictate your lifestyle in Thailand.
If you want to enjoy Thailand, be financially independent of it.
I think if you surveyed this forum, 95% going on 100% of the members here do not rely on Thailand for their income.
Your task is to be that guy who also doesn't need Thailand.

GF from Sydney wanted to go an visit Tasmania years ago when we did our first trip around Australia. Went into SunMap one day and bought maps before our big trip and asked the girl behind the counter if I "Could have a look at your map of Tassie" ? GF looked at me horrified and said she would wait for me outside.

I have to agree with the comments about giving the kids the best possible opportunities, plus the Mrs. Once everyone has duel citizenship plus some land or a house in both countries and they have completed their education my job is done. After that, up to them (us).

There still are bargains to be had just outside of Hobart. Have done a lot of research these past few months. The only negative is having to connect to International flights in Melbourne-but that is only an hour away.

If you are young, footloose and fancy free the gypsy lifestyle is doable.
Slot in a family and it becomes less so unless you have a decent Thai family backup or other family backup. Kids education as someone mentioned is a priority. We pay a bucketload for an IB school here but that's fine we can afford it, many can't. The boys may end up in the 'family business' it's up to them as long as they are happy.
Swiss German friends who ended up living full time in Thailand built a good life for themselves with the company that imported the parts for the Skytrain back when. Houses, cars a good life not the washed up expats who end up jumping off a balcony amid a mountain of debts and hunny traps.
Australia to me is boring. Good place to leave. Love our house in Manly but living in Oz full time nah, thanks.

Once again , it gets cold and snows in the winter but its a great town. Launceston is nicer than Hobart an only 50 minutes away from Melbourne.
