Not sure what country your in, I was going to say surely you'd find shitloads of it on Haad Rin KPY, but its mostly scratchers, you'd probably end up with a bag of gold plated nose rings.
If your in the land of Oz research where the mines are and try and go downstream/river if it's water proof.

I did a small renovation job for a guy. Was only worth a couple grand but I saw the metal detector and asked about it. He said it was up for sale,3grand (that was the pic in the op, and said how about that instead of the cash? Yeah why not, might be a hobby I enjoy. Apparently it's worth about 10 grand aussie new with all the bits.

He's gonna show me how it works when I get some free time. Then like Coolhandluke says , find the old creeks etc , google earth I suppose. A bit of geology research is needed.

Yesterday I had my first detecting lesson. Paid a professional to teach me for half a day up in the hills somewhere.
Didn't find any gold yet , but learnt alot about how to set up the detector and the best bit was I remembered what being out in a forest was like. Peace and quiet , the smell of trees after some rain the night before.
Made me realize how much time I spend stuck at work and generally stuck indoors.
Can't wait to get back out there again soon and even the next trip to Thailand I'll consider taking the machine with me.

Good stuff , looks like a fun hobby , derelict sites would be my first locations , then caves . Derelict sites as in building sites of demolished houses? I've tried once and it takes more patience than I have. Nail after nail then screw after screw. I gave up digging after an hour. Perseverance is definitely the key there. At the park today no one was there. Big big area. First I hit around the swings and slippery dip. Found a few coins and the gold bracelet. Then over to where the locals play soccer. Gold ring and more coins and whatever that mystery object is. Also found maybe 10 beer bottle lids. Still lots of the park to cover next time.

I was thinking old church yards , statley homes , castles , megalithic doodas , sacred wells and so forth.

The first detector I got is too much for park and beach searching. It picks up power lines etc. So I bought another more suited for park and beach. Not a bad Minelab unit.

Cheap enough. Minelab Xterra 705. In saying that I probably dug up maybe 100 and something dollars worth today plus got some walking exercise. I'll head back to the same park tomorrow.

Found in less than an hour. Not exactly enough to give up the day job. I would have kept going but the council was there mowing the lawns.

Any tips for cleaning up the coins? These aren't pre decimal so the banks will swap them over. I'll just throw them in the change jar.
