Who have you ever known who actually suffered through war?
I will say my father, he was ruined by it.
My mother too, in a different way, of being afraid all her life.
The talks i had with my boss, a refugee from Poland after Stalin invaded.
Of a close friend who was on the front line in Vietnam.
And you have your keyboard.
Tell me.
PS and that French family I stayed with as a child. They had experienced the occupation.
I was too young to ask if they collaborated.
I did experience their deep feelings , of taking me to war graves.
It was fresh in their memory and shocking to me.
I could empathise.
Whole family wiped out.

Suffered in wartime? Father, mother were in Arnhem 1944 - 1945 both 17-18yo at the time, does that count? All grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc., etc.

It is not of collecting accolades, but of feeling. Mine is not of revenge. I took that to a very personal level. Stuff happens. When it happens to you, then even if not as dramatic as war, a personal war, of a divided family. Of having to decide. I might have been wrong, that can never be determined. Others can judge. I know what happened and the action i took. My close friend, nurse, had to report the circumstances. She told me so before sending a call for intervention. She was correct. They took my son away , but not me. |

So vivid.
It never leaves you.
My son just came in.
How i felt that.
We have never fallen out big time.
He has helped and though he does not know all, knows enough.
As did my nurse all those years ago.
I am not dangerous.Can feel and sublimate feelings. Never physically violent.
The hatred i read, even here on mango does frighten me.
Pigeon holes.

No, nothing like that. Children, our children. Then it is a very real problem. Enough. But you are correct in that is how wars happen. Can you stand down, knowing you hold the moral ground. Thai, losing face. I can and did and will always do if that is the only real option. Escalate? And still there will have to be a solution. Not desired by either side. Pragmatism. |

No doubt Mick wants clarification of that afternoon.
Son set fire to the house.
I got a ladder and smashed a window to get in.
He held a knife to me.
I flattened him and phoned for assistance.
Ex wife blamed me. She was not there, was with her lover.
Authorities moved in, son was taken, not me.
Then she claimed i was not fit to look after my children.
Next she wanted me to look after them on weekdays and i could be free at weekends..
Well the rest is for a bleth novel.
