Under Grandfather Rule, the 3rd paragraph talks of 55+ needing 500k in the bank. ... who have been in the country continuously since 1998. For those long stayers, 55-60 years olds need 500,000, 60+ need 200,000. There is no grandfathering for those on the old 800,000 for three months as far as I can tell.

Grandfathering for those who have been on extensions continuously since 1998 I think.

^^^ correct, I believe the retirement age at the time was 60.
All the rules changed after the Tom Yam Kung crisis, retirement age lowered, Thai wives allowed to buy and own land, farangs allowed to buy condos.
Those days are gone, get over it.

Poke your finger on the clip and an arrow thing will pop up (amongst other things). Put your finger on the arrow thing briefly and a menu will pop up down below. Press "copy link". Come back here and open the reply box. Put finger on it and a copy box will pop up. Press copy box with said finger. All this fingering stuff reminds me, did you know "British Library's collection of obscene writing goes online" www.theguardian.com/books/2019/feb/04/british-librarys-collection-of-obscene-writing-goes-online,

Under Grandfather Rule, the 3rd paragraph talks of 55+ needing 500k in the bank. It might be be my oversue of thicko pills but I don't understand that, perhaps it's just the way it's written. The third para. in the article that begins with "likewise", suggests there is a 500k rule that has existed for the past 5-15 years, am I alone in saying I've never heard of it, only the 400K or 800K options?

Tjeez guys, it's easy. If you were on a retirement visa in 1998 and haven't left the country since you're lucky. Probably also 80 or so by now

Apologies for dragging the subject up again but one agent in Pattaya has a small sign in the office window advising clients due for renewal March/April/May to apply before end of Feb.
Someone in the pub the other day said applications could be made 90 days prior, which was mews to me. Possibly this only applies in Chonburi and then only to agents.
Bit late to be of use I know, but I am sure nobody here uses an agent anway, so it is just out of interest. Ad it was new to me it could well be new to others.

As far as I am aware a retirement visa cannot be renewed more than 30 days before the expiry date, that's certainly the basis I have always worked on and indeed I do renew one month before so that I've got wiggle room if something happens. 90 days beforehand sounds far fetched, possibly an agent trying to scare up new business.

Yes possibly. As of yet the only comment I have heard from people using agents is they have been told - at the moment no change. Well there wouldn't be would there, not before 01/03.
Soon start finding out anyway.
Plenty of Russians in Pattaya, easily identified by the tasteful black socks which complement their bone white legs.

I use a farang agent in Chiang Mai who is pretty proactive about telling his clients what's going on and what's needed when there's something new in the works, he's currently saying "no change" also.

When I was on the Marriage Extension you could apply 6 weeks before it was due. It could take that long to be approved anyway.

What I was thinking was, if there is "no change" when going through an agent why would he be encouraging people to do the extension three months ahead and before 01/03. If indeed there is "no change" after this date.
Smacks of a last desperate grab for business before it all goes tits up.
I still feel that there will not be much change with the agents. But what do I (or we) know.
And why am I doing this at 4.30 a.m.? Had an early night, got up for a pee an hour ago and........
