A radio programme this morning apparently stated that it is being mooted (forget the exact terms) that "some" on annual extensions will be rquired to prove the 800,000 in the bank every 90 days.
Usual heated debate and cliches ensue.

The last initial report was based on a radio piece.
Confirmation has since been made, details differ, i.e. 800,000 to remain in the bank for 90 days after extension issued, thereafter balance of 400,00 to be maintained. A number of points still need clarification.

I read that the 800k is also required for two months before, making 5 months in total that 800k must be on deposit, thereafter, the balance must not fall below 400k. All of which is what it is, the question is how will it be policed and enforced.......retrospectively at renewal/extention time and no visa granted if the balances weren't maintained, that seems a bit silly. A 90 day check and letter from the bank perhaps, oh no, not another 90 day report! |

I read that the 800k is also required for two months before, making 5 months in total that 800k must be on deposit Actually, it's three months before for an extension, making 6 months your money is locked up unproductively each year. |

Know your place on the pecking order, first came the arabs, then came the russians, then came the chinese, next up are the indians. Rich guys in poor guys out. Lets be honest, Thailand never was, is not and never will be a cheap place for ex bus driver types to retire to. |

I'm starting to question why that should be so: heavily polluted, manically unsafe roads, poor quality on almost every front and expensive to boot! Fifteen years ago the argument was easily in favour and very clear, today it's bordeline if not questionable, for those with substantial wealth I think there are much better options. |
