In Norman Mailer's first novel, The Naked and the Dead, set in WW II, his publisher insisted he replaced all instances of "<duck>" with "fug" and "<duck>ing" with "fugging".
I suspect the village's name change will provide little relief.
(Not particularly a fan of Mailer, but love the works of Gore Vidal and loved the conflict between the two.)

I heard the town of "Muff" in Ireland had to remove their sign from the outskirts of town because it kept getting stolen every time they replaced it. "You are now entering Muff".
