May 4th is the National Day of Remembrance of the Dead in the Netherlands. There was a small ceremony at the Embassy, yours truly was present. Nice, sober, with respect.

Sorry, only just saw this. A new education for me and I was enlightened by this linkOn 4 May we remember all Dutch victims of war – civilians and military personnel – who have died in armed conflict or peace missions in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or further afield since the start of the Second World War.May I offer my eternal thanks for those that have fallen to bring peace and freedom to those that were without either of these basic human rights. We should never forget those heroes/heroines that fought to give us a better world.

From the NL Embassy FB post "Every year, the Netherlands commemorate all Dutch military and civilians who, since the beginning of World War II, have lost their lives in armed conflicts and peace operations. To honor those we have lost, the Netherlands Embassy organized a ceremony in the garden today. Dutch children first attended a lesson about WOII provided by the Dutch School in Bangkok. This was followed by a remembrance speech by Ambassador H.E. Remco van Wijngaarden and the reading of a poem by Dutch pupils. Two minutes of silence were observed and wreaths were laid on behalf of the Embassy, Ministry of Defense NTCC, NVT, Thailand Zakelijk, and the Dutch School." web.facebook.com/netherlandsembassybangkok
