Yes honest, and naturally it isn't connected to international high finance.
It used to be possible to deposit a sterling cheque in Thailand, I understand the cost was about £60 and it took around 6 weeks to clear. Anyone know if this is still possible.? I have just been in to a branch of Kasikorn on Sukhumvit with a query on TT rates and their English was worse than my Thai so I gave up and didn't even bother asking about this one. .

Seem to recall such actions were possible and certainly I think still are, friend of mine an American (I'm not proud) deposited a US dollars cheque from the IRS a refund for his overpaid tax into his account at Kasikornbank.
No problems and the amount (in Thai baht) was credited to his account within 10 days.
As far as I know from what he told me the service fee was 500 baht.
