The last remaining actor from Dad's Army has died aged 77 At the Pearly Gates, when names are being taken. A voice will be heard. "Don't tell him Pike."

77, makes you think, getting a bit close. Why don't I get out and drink more.? Ah yes because 2 or 3 pints can leave me like a bag of shite for a day. Problem solved.

Ah yes, I remember the good old days. 10 pints of draft Abbots, a knee trembler round the back of the pub with Tracy the Tart, projectile vomiting in the bog then off to the chippie for saveloy and chips. Next day at work the boss would ask how come I was so chipper and I'd say it was the clean living, in bed with a glass of hot milk by 9pm.

BTW Mike you missed Dean Penson, the Brit who needed a £10,000 go fund me to get him home from hospital in Phuket. According to The Sun he died in hospital near his home on 25th January. A blood condition which stopped production of platelets and bone marrow was said to be the problem. Is that leukemia.?

Apparently that's what it was: www.echo-news.co.uk/news/23966393.southend-man-thailand-hospital-without-insurance-south-essex/It seems kinda unfair to blame the "hell hole" hospital when the guy went on holiday not knowing he had blood cancer....or did he know! Whatever, he would have had symptoms and the time between them appearing and death is not short, I know this from an uncle who died of it.

Maybe more local standard Thai suffer in silence especially those who also have no money. BTW is the Echo article sufficient reason to raise a defamation case in either Thailand or Britain?

To someone with little or no knowledge of Thailand a government hospital ward could come as a shock. Add to that a bit of flowery, sensationalist journalism to make it interesting and there you go. So am I reading you right changers, leukemia symptoms can come on only weeks before it carries you off.? FFS. Add that to Ian Lavender going at 77 and our King having a dubious prognosis at 75,these all add to the list of things that cross my mind when I wake at 2am and can't get back off.

It's not always easy to detect, symptoms can remain undetected for weeks/months years and then surge as the cells suddenly grow very quickly. My uncle survived two years from the point of detection but everyone is different. I'm pretty certain the chap who dies, was aware of his condition, which is why he was unable to get health insurance. I agree about government hospitals coming as a shock to many, he will have been used to NHS standards. Bloody bed coverings and blood on the floor are normal at many gov hospitals here.

The nearer you are to the ward door, the more dire your prospects is what I believe. Definitely no dignity in death. Everyone who can walk gathered around watching.

I had an idea that leukemia was not the correct spelling. The shame and ignominy of it. Next time I go to the bj bar they will doubtless be tittering at my plight.
