I'd like to go see it. Ever been before? ..... Any good? I've been on the grounds, but never to the event. I have been in Edinburgh when it's taking place, and I have watched the bands retreat - they march down from the castle. That was amazing in itself. There's always guest bands and perfomers, and they are usually excellent. It's a disgrace that I've never been, always some kind of awkward excuse - if it comes to your area - go see it.

I'm actually a big fan of the bagpipes. Anyway it's headed to Melbourne Australia, that's 800km away from me but much closer than Scotland.

I actually took part in the Berlin Military Tattoo at the Deutschlandhalle in 1981. Not as prestigious as the Edinburgh Tattoo but still an amazing thing to be a part of.
If I remember correctly, it ran for 6 nights and after each performance I sat with the rest of the crowd and watched the rest of the show every night. The guest band were the Royal Green Jackets and they had a lone bugler right at the back of the hall starting the band with a solo rendition of ‘High on a hill’, absolutely fantastic.
Another perk was that round the corner from the venue was a small fairground, which was part of the Oktoberfest. The usual shooting and darts stalls were there but when you won at these the prize was a bottle of Sekt (cheap bubbly). So after the show we would go there and get completely rat-arsed.
