Are ice pops a good way to deal with vaginal pain after childbirth? All over the internet, new mums are rejoicing over one dad’s advice for dealing with pain post-childbirth. Martin Wanless explained on DAD that one of his best tips to help women deal with the pain they experience after childbirth is something people are now referring to as ‘ice pops Basically, this is a condom filled with water and frozen, designed to be held between the new mother’s legs to ease swelling and reduce pain. It’s a thing, apparently. Martin’s wife was greeted with a fridge filled with frozen condoms after giving birth in hospital, and loads of other women on the internet swear by the technique. But is this actually a good idea? Or are ice pops just another one of those Pinterest ‘hacks’ that do more harm than good? We spoke to Shazia Malik, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, to find out.
