Scientists hope they have found a drug to stop all neurodegenerative brain diseases, including dementia. In 2013, a UK Medical Research Council team stopped brain cells dying in an animal for the first time, creating headline news around the world. But the compound used was unsuitable for people, as it caused organ damage. Now two drugs have been found that should have the same protective effect on the brain and are already safely used in people. "It's really exciting," said Prof Giovanna Mallucci, from the MRC Toxicology Unit in Leicester. She wants to start human clinical trials on dementia patients soon and expects to know whether the drugs work within two to three years. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-39641123

My theory, without sufficient evidence is that this drug has been known for a while and is just being tweaked a little, for nefarious means.
There's recently a large number of people even in their 40's who are told by the legal drug pushers, you need statins or you will die early via a stroke or heart attack (true fact).
Statins help cause dementia (IMO) and so the more people on statins the more people can be prescribed this new anti dementia drug, just incase, which in itself will have further side effects for another drug to be prescribed.
Could be nonsense, but where there is huge corporate money there's usually also huge corruption.

Interesting article blether.
I must say I find a lot of good reading material here on the BM that I would otherwise miss out on, you guys do a good job. Nearly every time I find something that is worth posting one of you buggers have beaten me to it by five minutes.
That article reminded me of something I came across years ago when I lived in CR. Spending long hours at the computer getting my new website going I started to get hot feet, along with pin and needles. Did some research on it and diabetes was a known culprit for causing it. Had a blood test, no diabetes. Did more research on peripheral neuropathy and Vitamin B12 kept cropping up. Starting taking it and after a while the heat and numbness went away. When I stopped taking it the symptoms returned, soon as I got back on it I was fine. I believe there was some sort of nerve damage somewhere in my spine (AyG will probably not agree) and the B12 was somehow righting the problem.
When I told the spinal specialists that were treating me in hospital about B12 solving my problem they looked at me like I had told them I shoved a three foot long eel up my arse, they refused to believe it even though I had proved it worked. When I requested a B12 injection they said I don't need it, would not even test my blood to check my B12 level.

I despair at the utter scientific illiteracy of journalists, even at the BBC. The article states "When a virus hijacks a brain cell it leads to a build-up of viral proteins." That isn't the issue, as the original scientific article abstract makes clear: "Thus, in prion-diseased mice, both trazodone and dibenzoylmethane treatment restored memory deficits, abrogated development of neurological signs, prevented neurodegeneration and significantly prolonged survival."
So, it's prions (which affect protein folding), not viruses that the research is addressing.

^ I hope you know what you are talking about AyG, because no other bastard does ! Oh, you've been searching amongst my previous postings to find comments I've made for which you can complement me. That's very sweet, if a bit creepy.

I could easily "like" most of your comments, but I thought that would be creepy, like I had a thing for you, or something.
