In the U.S. there are frequent recalls of manufactured food- human food and pet food- that was found to be contaminated.
Have you ever heard of any food recall in Thailand except for the "HIV in Thai canned tuna" hoax?
Now maybe Thai manufactured food abroad has been recalled there, but have you ever heard a recall announcement in Thailand?

The HIV thing was fake as far as i am aware, One suspects there are regular recalls in Thailand, but one suspects they are all in Thai, not much point doing them English, given 98% of population cant read or understand English

Have never heard of a food product recall, but like Sp said they may happen in Thai and go over our heads.
I must have missed the HIV in canned tuna affair, first time I have heard of it.
But from what I have heard of canned fish HIV would be the least of my worries when it came to what you catch from eating it.
I used to eat shark, until I worked on that northern prawn trawler and saw the worm ridden fillets that were being put in the cartons to be frozen and sent to the markets.

As for your hypothesis, mmm...maybe. But my guess is probably not. I think it more likely that you are instead imposing your own cultural expectations in a place where they quite possibly do not apply. Do you think any Thai news outlet is going to leap to criticize another Thai business, possibly opening themselves up to strict defamation laws for possibly false claims? Do you think Thai news is going to badmouth and potentially damage any Thai business if they can avoid it in any way? If such recall announcements were indeed frequent here, don't you think at least a few of them would have been forwarded by spouses to the English language forums in Thailand? I've lived in Thailand for 14 years and have never heard of a single recall announcement like those that come out repeatedly in the U.S. to help protect people from tainted products. If anyone can show multiple recall notices like that in the public media in Thailand, I would be glad to see them and know they exist. But ain't seen nothing yet. Enjoy your meal.
