Why won’t prudish Brits recognise the bidet’s brilliance? Like many other links to Europe, bidets have almost died out here. What a pity. A brave campaign was launched to save them by the Council of British Sanitary Pottery Manufacturers in 1963, but failed. We were restrained by British prudery, suggested the council, “depriving the country of the most hygienic washing appliance of them all”. What’s the matter with us? The Italians and the French have used bidets for 300 years (and not just at court or in brothels). Perhaps we’re still too embarrassed to embrace this vital bit of bathroom equipment. Or to talk about washing our bottoms. I’m using bottom as a catch-all term, because there are so many ailments and substances that the bidet can heal and deal with effectively: piles, periods, fissures, itches, prolapses, as well as your everyday effluvia, but we have long been a relatively prudish and grubby lot as far as down there goes. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/may/01/why-wont-prudish-brits-recognise-the-bidets-brilliance

I use a two litre water bottle with the sporty cap....if you turn the nozzle right it gives a wonderful spray.

I grew up in our house 1945-1961 , 1961 being when I entered Dartmouth.
The ''French Dish'' as our cleaning ladies referred to it was originally brought into the house by a great aunt who had married a refugee Russian Duke.
She did rather well actually as he managed to save his fortune at the time of the revolution due it seems to being it being invested in England and America plus a couple of other nations.
France being one of those nations where they had a Chateau and an estate. Rather impressive as I recall from childhood visits too. Bathrooms were indeed ''Frenchified '' as my mother said with a sort of sniffy tone to her voice.

Not bloody likely they were all older ladies who had worked in one capacity or another over the years for our family. Lived rent free (rightly so) when retired, peppercorn rent if any family member was working for us. If not working for us a fair rental was paid set at par by and with the local council. My grandfather did away with the tied house system which he and my grandmother as well as the family in general regarded as an appalling system on a par with the old villein system. Now the grand daughters!!! Thereby may well be a tale or two though!!! They olde ''slap and tickle!!!! They ole country gals could be a bit feisty at a times you know!!
