There was a time I wouldnt consider buying it, those days are long gone.
Samsung 48" LED telly, cost 20k + baht, lasts about 14 months and is toast.
Engineer came from Samsung, cost to repair, 10k plus.
How long is the guarantee I asked, answer, 90 days. We both agreed, cheaper and better to buy new.
Went to Home Pro today, looked at names such as TCL and AJ, names I wouldnt have considered before. Baht for baht, they make sense.
End result, bought 3 x 48" Toshiba LED at 15k baht each, these are non smart TVs, all I want is something to watch the Premier League on. If one goes tits up, I will swap it with another and move the tits up one into the guest room.
Back in jolly ole blighy my 30 year old Linn turntable works perfectly. Downstairs in Bkk my 20 year old amp, speakers and cd player work perfectly.
Neil Young was correct.

I usually try to buy the better brands but sometimes as rg said it makes sense to go the other way. My Samsung monitors have lasted many years now, have had a good run with them but they will have to be replaced one day. Would consider looking at the cheaper brands these days. I have noticed these days when I fly to Oz I don't see so many Indian people carrying huge flat-screen televisions out the terminal. A few years ago it seemed every second one was carting one under their arm. Perhaps they have become so cheap in Oz now it is not worth buying them in Asia.

^^^Mick have had many Samsung appliance in the past, thats one of the reasons I chose a Samsung telly. Washing machine and computer monitors still going strong.
Perhaps these manufacturers should stick to what they are good at instead on trying to become a one stop shop for everything electrical.
Funny you mention Indians and tellys, every time I am at the departures I still see Indians with trolleys loaded up with tellys. Probably a combination of taxes and face.

SAMSUNG (originaly a textile company ) is not really a manafacturer as such except possibly for mobile phones. It is mainly a selling group which buys other companies products for resale.

I swear by Samsung monitors, I am still using a 23" model that I bought from an Indian run computer shop in Chiang Rai, and I bolted from that town eight years ago. A guy who knew a bit about tv sets and monitors told me years ago that the best two screens to buy were Samsung and LG. Samsung phones have been giving me a good run, usually give them to kids in the extended family and shout myself a new one but I have not had one die on me yet. I used to think the Aussie Indians were buying them cheap in Asia then re-selling them in Oz, but maybe it is a face thing ie. "Come watch the cricket at my house, my telly is bigger than yours"

Samsung, notorious for using cheap ass capacitors in their TV's.
Have an autopsy done on it.

Hatari fans are crap. I bought three. All three broke within a year. The buttons stop working. On the other hand, I replaced them with three Sharp fans, and no Sharp fan has ever broken on me yet.

You are lucky then.,...the fans failed within warantee. Most things I buy fail 3 days after the warantee.
