Many simply have no plan or backup. Its a horrible thought really. Sorry .....the 7000 is for all treatments.....including 3 lots of rabies, Tetnus and cleaning of the wound and antibiotics. Actually the rabies shots will cost 4000 I inflated it to be sure. I know someone (a european) who got it. Less than 5000 in his case. Fair enough lets say it is thb 7k, its still one hell of chunk of change for someone whose only income is 25k to 30k month,

I could live on that a month in the boons. Even with kids. Live or exist? What happens when you or your kids take sick? My son was bitten by a dog and the treatment now is over 40,000 baht. me reckons it would have cost 7,000 baht in a state hospital - I agree, for the initial treatment. Add the cost of follow up rabies injections etc, you'd be looking at near on 20,000 baht. A months money. Live well but not the high life. Both my kids have dual nationalities though so no 40k hospital bill. I don't owe any mortgage on the house. Thats 7500b a week budget. Definitely not the high life , but it can be done. Ps , I'd probably get bored witless after month 1. Pps , thais do it on much less and how about the pensioners in the UK? They manage.

One of things is " the Thais" dont do it on much much, thats the reason a significant portion of the population are up to their eyeballs in debt either through banks or loan sharks And i am confused by the notion one could " live well" on 25 or 30k a month, having been in thailand over 15 years, i know what i spend every month and i dont live a a rock star life style, but dont want for anything either, but 30k / m doesnt even come close to my outgoing every month

That being said you can live well into your eighties if you look after yourself and exercise daily and stay off the pop. The main problem for expats is boredom I think. Better to be bored and warm though! If we look at living into ones 80s and planning for this from a financial perspective is a rather sobering exercise, and the realistic numbers are really an eye opener even living Thailand My mother's mother is 94 and my father's father is 95. These are things I definitely need to look at given my grandad drank the brewery dry many times.

UK pensioners get free bus travel and near free train travel, fuel benefits and free healthcare at every level. Probably other things too which I know nothing about. The expats get none of this.

Mick just paid 30,000 baht for a three day hospital stay for his child.

It cost 4.950 baht and supplemented his UK travel insurance. Worth every satang. I wonder how many pensioners are living uninsured in Thailand, deluding themselves that in the event of illness, they can fly home. Serious delusion. Serious.

My wifes father spent a few weeks in the local hospital only cost 30b.
