British backpacker accidentally killed herself after row with boyfriend A British backpacker unintentionally killed herself trying to frighten her boyfriend after a "silly row" on a night out with him while they were living together in Thailand, an inquest heard. Abigail Brown, known as Abi to her family and friends, had been out with her partner James Brum in the city of Phuket when she left him to return to their apartment "in a huff". The 26-year-old, described by loved ones as a "gregarious fun loving girl with a zest for life", hanged herself when she got home Her mother Jane Rowland, 50, told the inquest she believed her daughter meant "only to frighten him or upset him or make him realise how upset she was in that moment". She also appealed for young couples to look out for each other when travelling to hot and exciting places with "cheap and unregulated alcohol", to make sure they "always stay safe".. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/05/15/british-backpacker-accidentallykilled-row-boyfriend/

Really struggling with this paragraph....unregulated...the lady concerned was 24 which is way above the legal age in both Thailand and the UK to drink booze, cheap ?....how much is 2 liters of rough cider in the UK these days ?....hasnt there been a call in the UK to start regulating cheap booze for sale in the UK
To me at least the fact they were in Thailand has absolutely no relevence to the facts of the case

Her mother believes she only meant to frighten him because she can't handle the brutal truth.
I can't count the amount of "accidental," suicides I'm aware of.

Strangely written story tbh.
I bet troppo season played a part in this. I have a theory that people from colder countries like the UK are more succeptable to it.

Thailand will be blamed for this, as usual. How often do we hear stories like this where the family points the finger at the Thais and their laws, when quite often it is the fault of the victim ? Sorry to hear of the death of the girl but seriously this could have well happened in the UK, the USA, or any western country. And it does, every day.

I got the feeling the parents are in denial from shock so blamed everyone but their daughter.

If a young Thai died in the UK, for any reason, the family would have it in for that country. Can't count the amount I times I have seen young western backpackers p**sed up doing dangerous shit like riding scooters around recklessly without helmets. Unfortunately some of them become statistics.

Of course some would be from heart attacks or other conditions out of their control , but still leaves plenty of deaths from stupid things like riding scooters drunk.

Never been there and never want to go there. From what I have heard there are some great places to go that are away from all the drunken idiots, but the place attracts too many ratbags for my liking. Not surprised so many people die there, drugs and booze are the cause of most of it.

Don't people who are attention speaking, make sure they'll be caught? A lad at work hung himself from a door knob.

A very short "rope" He was found in a sitting position with his backside of the floor. Months of bullying by his boss, who blamed for everything that went wrong. For advancement, we went through psychometric tests, we were told they could not be fooled. 1st one he sat, he was advised to seek help. Next test he changed how he answered and was promoted. Those that knew him thought the 1st assessment was spot on.

The laughable thing is that those who "fail." them or don't like the results write them of as hocus pocus.

No adult accidentally seeks out or creates a rope like structure, Accidentally shapes it into a noose Accidentally anchors it Accidentally puts it around their neck.

Can't help but feel there is more to this story.
Abusive bf....running out of money?
Or one of a myriad other issues....drugs maybe or simply mental health issues.
Thailand can be paradise one day and a hell akin to prison the next.
Those rollercoaster emotions I believe send more than a few over the edge sadly.
