I arrived in Istanbul last night suffering from acute tendonitis in my left Achilles heel - I thought that was quite appropriate, going to Athens and getting an achilles problem Anyway, a massive queue met me at immigration after I painfully hobbled down. So my travel companion had a bright idea and asked if I could get a wheelchair. "Did he request a wheelchair and special assistance before the flight?" "No." "Ahhhhh..............." "Hold on, is that the man in the blue shirt?" "Yes."" "I saw him hobble down the gangway, he looks in pain - okay, here's the wheelchair lady." Who was as hot as heel by the way - five minutes later I was through immigration and wheeled down to baggage collection, then dumped out of it. But that was okay - it was a great way to jump a queue

I then hobbled out to the taxi area and was met with a full on fight between drivers squabbling over passengers.
Welcome to Turkey.

Tell you what, though - this tendonitis is effin painful. I am flying back next Tuesday, have requested wheelchair assistance, it's the only way to fly ! Walking around the house or up the soi is one thing, but trying to hobble the length of Swampy carrying a bag is another. You don't even realise you have tendons above your heels until they hurt, and they can be hellish. When I was first able to walk again after being bedridden and wheelchair bound for almost a year I knew all about them. Because they had not been stretched for so long they were on fire, they were like dried jerky. Physio had me doing squats in hospital, I asked them why don't you just rip my fingernails out ? Have walked over 900km and done over 50,00 squats and heel lifts since those days, but sometimes they let you know they are there. Would hate to snap one ! When are you back in CM, Blether ?

Italy after Turkey, then somewhere else once my youngest daughter decides where. The Hurricane wants me to visit Australia, and I hear Taiwan and Japan mentioned too. Plus Mexico. i get confused as to where I am sometimes

Get well soon mate. Voltaren tabs will help. Rest up. Never mind the Votarene tabs, get straight on them Brandy Sours. Beautiful part of the world, excellent food, cheap drink, Med climate, some of those Turk women are STUNNING. Certainly well worth considering as a retirement destination. Must admit, when I read the title thought you had been on one of those legendary Blether sessions.

And you'll be shocked to hear I've been behaving myself setting aside one night in Poland. Being in a remote town, I had to walk two miles home in the dark while doing the drunk man shuffle. Not an easy task.

Done it myself, stumbling up the road steaming, with a fish supper that weighs a bloody ton. I would have eaten the food before I got home and told the missus I was set upon by a gang of ruffians who stole our dinner, despite my valiant efforts to protect my food . She would say it must have been a hell of a fight as they spread the food all over your face and smeared sauce on the front of your shirt ! Or something to that effect.......................

But those Voltaren do work well ! NSAID drugs work well but are not good for those with stomach problems and can cause bleeding. Even taken as suppository form to be avoided. Worked great when I had a tooth abscess though.

That's exactly what happened. A bloody great hole in my stomach. 3 months in hospital and a long recovery.

You could try a chicken custard near the Hippodrome too. And if you have a nice day an ordinary ferry trip up the Bosphorous will leave some memories. You can wash the down with Efes.
