Recently myself and Mrs TF returned back to Thailand via HK. fancied trying out a different route, airline and experience so opted to fly Cathy pacific. Hadn't done any duty free shopping back in Heathrow so duly found a exchange teller and went about our way. Picked up what we wanted, had a few hours to kill and some spare HK dollars to spend, so we decided to go and check out what the airport had to offer in the line of food and beverages. Nearly 10 effin quid for a " glass " of run of the mill S. African Chenin blanc. I thought i was seeing things at first, of course Mrs TF naturally assumed the same thing. Then went on to say i was either to tired or had got the exchange rate wrong in my head. Maybe i had ? no 9.6 to the pound and they were charging 89 dollars. Looked down the menu at a rack of baby rack pork ribs, over 20 quid. At that point the wife being a tight fisted Chinese decent Thai, proceeded back to the exchange booth and changed the dollars into baht, leaving Mr TF unfed and very unwatered

^^^^ good girl, well done.
The only things I have ever found worth buying in duty free is cigarettes.
The mrs doesnt even bother with perfumes etc, can be bought cheaper on the High Street.
Its all part of the flying experience, get the unwary to part with their cash.
One of the best routes from LHR to BKK I have found is, LHR to Singapore to BKK. The flights are usually not full, sure beats being packed in like sardines on BA or Quantass airlines.

You know the little ID tags they give out to write your contact info and attach to your luggage? Those are made from edible fiber and food grade ink. I usually collect some from several counters and then munch on them in the waiting area. Taste a bit like bamboo shoots. Can also be soaked in the airport restroom sink for five minutes for a more noodle-like texture. My cost? Not a penny. Not one.

I was stranded in Kunming airport one night for three effin hours, Thai Airways plane taking me to BKK had mechanical problems. The thing they were trying to pass off as food in the airport waiting area was disgusting. I ate half a backpack I was so hungry. ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png)

Back in the pre brexit days you would get 13 HK $ for a pound . However HK is hellish expensive these days no matter where you make your money. On your return trip you could jump on the airport express and be in central HK in 25 mins. Then head up the escalator to Staunton St , there's loads of boozers there with a bottle of plonk for 20 quid and all sorts of restaurants.

Changi...the best airport in the world by a long stretch IMHO, nobody likes hanging around airports when travelling, but at least Changi is less painful than the rest

I just bought a twin pack deal at Dubai Airport. A Samsung Tab England 9.6 inch plus a Samsung J2 phone for £236, and they let me pay cash sterling.
I thought that was a great deal

I think with all The Duty Free places, you have to look around a bit; there are some bargains.
However, I have found Suvarnabhumi awful, and wouldn't buy anything there as it's crap.
I trnasit a lot through Abu Dhabi, and the Duty free there is pretty good, as is Dubai.
In the end Changi is head and shoulders above every airport that I have been to.

Every time I have had some time to kill in Changi I hit the computer and software shops, always leave with a bargain. Have never bought a thing from Swampy except for a 120 bt coffee and a terrible excuse for a kebab. ![ROFL](//storage.proboards.com/6207754/images/nwUTsatqNojRutbVgC0a.jpg) * Bought some great clothing for family gifts at Brisbane airport, exxy but great quality, as is the small backpack that I picked up there and use a lot. It is so tough even my son cannot break it, so it must be good !

The Pizza place before concourse D aint bad and fair priced at 100 Baht a large slice.
Walk on to the Bill Bentley and get drunk.
Not that I would be there...hell no I'm in the CX lounge downstairs smashing the champagne.
