I sat in the pub today and made a point of talking to every single person who was sat at the bar or walked up to order a pint. Still spent 2 hrs and 58 mins watching the tennis on my own. People in the South East of England are just plain ignorant and utterly utterly boring. I want another job in Glasgow.

Could be the accent was too intimidating for them, some people don't like foreigners

Maybe because you was watching tennis on your own in a pub for 3 hours?

Maybe because you was watching tennis on your own in a pub for 3 hours? Well I enjoy tennis and can speak English fluently. Keep plugging away though!

I'm going with - "guy with funny accent, watching tennis (ffs) and telling the locals they are "just plain ignorant and utterly utterly boring".

You should join the internet forum called Englishvisa.com and you can complain about the natives till your hearts content, I mean why to Englishish always talk about the weather, why cant i find real Thai food in the SE of English ?....money money thats all they are interested in....

^ My good mate from Devon who I met in CR in 2005 when I first came to Thailand, used to say an Englishman is not happy unless he is moaning about the weather. Even after all those years in Thailand he complained about not being able to eat like he did back 'ome, and he was very "careful" with his money.

Where are you?
Being a native of the S E , never found that to be the case. Folks on Isle of Skye kept their distance, not at all chatty. Cities, large towns are less insular. The Norfolk village we lived in , maybe 6 months before being "accepted", but then most of us were not natives. North of England, Cumbria was hell.My southern accent a straight invitation to be disdained. Fled to Thailand after that blip in places i have lived in.
