Met a guy in Phnom Penh years ago who ran a well known guesthouse in the city, the California 2 Guesthouse. He was born in Pattaya, father was in the air force.
Lived there for a while and moved to the USA with his parents.
He showed me old photos of what the place was like when he was a kid, a tree-lined dirt track running along a beautiful beach. Looked like Thai coastline should look.
Think they should bring the bulldozers in a put it back to the way it was.

Would be nice but they have to be forced to appear to be cleaning the beach, hence why it will never ever become what they term it as a "world class beach resort"  Best leave it as a brothel IMO. pattayaone.news/en/shamed-action-social-media/ |

I might have wandered through that area about 30 years ago but can't be sure. I know I will never go there, along with a thousand other places in Thailand. Not interested. A guided tour of Jim whats-his-name silk house with some mediocre tour guide has more appeal, and that is zero. |

You could always take a look in 'Ripleys Believe it or Not' oldie, go high into the air on a big helium balloon held down with rusty chains.
Maybe have a go on the swings in Devils Den.

I am the world's worst tourist. The minute I get the slightest whiff of anything "touristy" I run the other way. When I lived in CM I used to dread "High Season", used to love going out in the quiet time of the year, drizzling rain and deserted streets, never had a problem getting a good spot at my favourite watering hole.
Was sitting in the dining room of my hotel in Hanoi years ago, had a huge mural on one wall, a map of the north of Vietnam showing all the tourist attractions, Sapa, Halong Bay etc.
Asked the lady who managed the hotel what this little place on the Chinese border north-east of Hanoi was, town called Lang Son. She said no tourists ever go there, and I said well that's it then, I'm going. Next day organized a car and driver and she sent this young lady from the hotel with me to be an interpreter, best trip I had done up there, did not see another western face the entire day.

It is all perspective and time.
Pattaya was my introduction to Thailand, by accident.
But was it an accident?
It opened eyes i already thought open.
My time there twenty plus years ago was a revelation, worthy of Milton.
I as always outrageous and the fun began.
Paradise Lost or found?
Perspective.
I never have abused anyone and at that time it was a shock to those who tried to abuse me.
And many happy memories of friends who stood by me.

The masseuse certification - there's been a drive in Chiang Mai along the same lines. Several shops have been shut down.
