TBH, I appreciate a news story when they have a 'pointer' in the accompanying picture.
Sometimes (without the pointer) it's so hard to understand what the news article is about but a pointer clarifies what the story refers to.

For example, without the pointers in the picture below I would have missed that slight crack in the road.

Something intrinsically unpleasant about not very verbal people pointing. Something lazy, spineless, or petty. Probably the reason for the website.

In contrast, Aussies (or any other western culture) pointing at things would not have the same draw.
