New Singapore air terminal automates departures with face recognition SINGAPORE (Reuters) - When a new terminal opens in 2017 at Singapore's Changi Airport, the world's best for five years straight according to a survey, passengers will be able to, in theory, go through check-in to boarding without speaking to another person. Automation is important for the city-state as it faces a labor crunch across many of its industries. It is also key for Changi given it is the world's sixth busiest for international traffic and is already operating close to total capacity, having last added a terminal almost a decade ago. Changi will be using facial recognition technology to offer self-service options at check-in, bag drop, immigration and boarding at the new terminal T4 - which according to Corrine Png, CEO of transport research firm Crucial Perspective Pte, "will be the first in Asia to do so". uk.businessinsider.com/r-say-cheese-new-singapore-air-terminal-automates-departures-with-face-recognition-2017-7?utm_content=buffere8397&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Even in the other terminials today, one can register your details and finger prints and depart through immigration even as a non Singaporian as part of a trial system,
i was asked if i would register my details on my last trip down there, took my prints and details on arrival, when i departed 2 days later all it too was a finger print scan to get through immigration, no chop in the pp

Beats me how the place was voted best airport 5 years running. Once would be too many. We have passed through it maybe 8 times in the last 3 years and dreaded it every time. Don Muang is more appealing.

Waiting for a flight with kids. Saw some advertisement for a kids play ground in terminal 2 from memory. Jumped on the shuttle train. The kids playground was a small plastic pool full of plastic balls with compulsory sock hire and admission fee for one hour that was more than a full day at the zoo. We got back on the train. Another money grab. Can't stand the place.
