If you have a wine bottle and no corkscrew use a shoe. As far as I know it doesn't work with screw tops.

If I recall correctly, from the same thread on Thaivisa, the solution is to remove one of your safety boots, and the sock, clang the top off the bottle with the steel toe of the boot, filter through the sock into the safety boot to remove the broken glass, and drink therefrom.
I seem to recall a severe risk of getting a sore head, probably from clanging myself with the safety boot, so I'd not recommend it as suitable for champagne.
Oh, and careful you don't stand on the sock with your bare foot. And remember not to put the sock back on.
