A ramble of forty years ago. No internet then. My first wife and i had divorced. I kept my house and remortgaged. She did come back, but i knew it was over. Left for Australia, to join her brother. Of topic; am i ever on? After that a friend was looking for a place to live. "No way with you, but i know someone who wants to have a room,". So it happened. Andy moved in and paid rent. He was a teacher too, but very different from me. That made it interesting, he very right wing. We agreed never to discuss politics. Nine at night , down the pub. Darts and goodness knows what else? l with my friends , university lecturers, very far left, further than me. But it made for a beer fueled night of debate. Then Andy applied for a job overseas, teaching at a British overseas school for the army in Germany. I knew of this and had nothing to do with his decision. I neither endorsed it or disapproved. Andy went for the interview. Special agents had been watching our movements and connections. I am not making this up. At the interview poor Andy was confronted with all my fellow friends and told he was a security risk and thus no to his application. Forty years ago. Do you think under cover are not more sophisticated now? Do i think this post is not open to all? I have nothing to hide, thus can make this post.

Interesting. I've heard of such agents bugging houses of potential recruits. Would not surprise me in the least if they had listening devices in yours.

Very valuable lesson learned. That taught him to be more careful in the company he chose to stay with

I was involved in student politics in my first bout of UNI..... which was after the army where I had a certain level of clearance.... when I worked with Met the guy at Amberlie air force base went sick and I was asked if I could go up quick....it seems a clearance was needed and because they had a file allready mine could be done quickest. A nice 6 months that sergeants mess and no running round with a clipboard. I later had a look at my file under FOI was upset, they conidered my involvement low key and not of any interest though I did have close associations with people of interest. Good way to catch up with your past as it did have clippings from newspapers etc mentioning me or originating with me for several years as once you had a file they just kept adding to it.

Very valuable lesson learned. That taught him to be more careful in the company he chose to stay with It did indeed, but to be fair i was not an extremist and argued against those. Andy stayed in my house with his then girlfriend. A long relationship. Me, at the time, well poor Andy would be surprised at the lady who was with me that day. Then all changed, a woman who was to become my wife. Yes , she who was involved in the far left that i mocked. Watch, "Dreamers" . Andy left, out of etiquette.

Some modern fantasy,
"On the frozen shores of Sweden, lightning strikes from a clear sky. The skeleton of a huge man is revealed, its fingers clutched around the handle of an iron hammer. No one who comes to see this marvel from Norse mythology can lift it - no one but Hellboy, who lifts the hammer just in time for lightning to strike again, welding it to his hand and leading him towards a bizarre series of visions and encounters."

That house was wild. I actually sold it to one of the clique. No names, but they are famous now. I walked out, not without money of course. Famous and dead. Went my own way. Time and reflection. One i will mention, Adrian Henri, his brother was my neighbour. We had a season ticket at Norwich City for years. The Liverpool connection. And the Birmingham days?

So i live in Thailand. Know what i have given up. Know to play by the rules. And that gives me a freedom to write of the past of falsehood. Of the way it is now. Dreamers.
