I've never been and I've always been reluctant due to various bad reports. However, I have some time to burn around Feb/March time frame next year. I was toying with Phil & Burma.
Where in Phil would you go?

*Side note, I usually fly Emirates business class - I was quoted a mental price to Burma, £4000 or so. Phil was half the price or so. I can't believe the Burma biz class price.

Where in Phil would you go? Honestly Bleth, nowhere. My ex wife is a flipper, so I do understand enough Tagalog to get me round but the only time that I went there I was shoiting myself everywhere I went. In a taxi at the traffic lights, if you want to buy a newspaper (from the street sellers), the taxi drivers will only open the window about 2cm, It's not safe to open the windows in the street the drivers told me, even in the middle of the day. Walking out of my hotel at night time receptionist asked where I was going, "7-11" says I, "please don't sir, someone will shoot you" she said. Big grin on my face I question this, "you mean that someone might see a westerner and maybe try to rob me, possibly by gun point"? "No, someone will shoot you sir". Everywhere I went I was constantly told to be on the lookout for pickpockets, thieves, conmen and muggers. If you have problems you can't go to the police, they make the RTP look like a caring none corrupt organisation with great policing skills, the locals call the cops 'crocodiles'. Bleth, you know of my military history, while I never served in Iraq or Afghanistan I have been in some very hairy places but none that made me feel so insecure and defenceless as the Philippines. Maybe I just had a bad experience but I would never go back there, especially with the nutter that runs the country now.

if you have never been, dont bother, its a typical shoot themselves in the foot cluster ferk, boracay is beautiful. The only good things you read about the place are from burnt out pensioners who can no longer meet the thai visa requirements, same same cambodia, they spend all day on line slagging off Thailand, while wishing they were back here.
Angeles Shity, what a effin dump, full of burnt out ex Vietnam war vet types and ozzy cheap charlie mongers.
As for scams and rip offs, they make the Thais look like amateurs, you will be ripped off and not even know it.
Rip off #1 starts in the airport, written in tagalog, trolley 20 pesos written in english trolley $2, last time I wa theere the airport was in a effin cage, I shit you not.
Go for a beer, some slimey tagalog type will tell you should buy a gun a for your own protection, its not an offer, its a threat, you are just about to be ripped off and theres eff all you can do about it.
I know flipper women who refuse to set foot in the country for fear of their kids being kidnapped, they fly from the uk to thailand and meet their parents in thailand.
Burma wins hands down every time, get there before its destroyed, some of those women are stunning, and they dont suffer from hello kitty malaise.

We’ll be there for the first time in February of 2018 on a diving trip for 10 days (flights booked and resort partially paid for). Looking forward to it and might do a short thread about the visit. Not telling where we’ll be staying.

However, there are also some great beaches throughout, its jyst the infastructure that us <duck>ed. I am off to Angeles in November for a Cricket tour and then Bohol in December for a holiday at my "friends" house.
