Tom Petty dead: Singer dies aged 66 after cardiac arrest - reports Tom Petty has died after suffering a cardiac arrest, according to CBS News. The singer, aged 66, was rushed to hospital unconscious and pulled off life support after showing no brain activity. The iconic artist suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night, TMZ reported. Petty was born in Gainesville, FL, on Oct. 20, 1950, into a rough childhood. He lived in poverty with an abusive, alcoholic father. An encounter with Elvis Presley in the '50s saw him gain an interest in rock music. Aged 17, he dropped out of school to play in a band - Mudcrutch. www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/tom-petty-dead-dies-death-latest-cause-age-life-career-music-heartbreakers-a7979696.html

I did see on FB he'd been hospitalised, then a little later that he'd gone. Then a little later CBS had jumped the gun. To quote Niki Lauda on hearing the priest giving him his last rites Fark off, I'm not dead yet.

Do something you really like, and hopefully it pays the rent. As far as I'm concerned, that's success. Tom Petty.

Also 2 best selling albums with the The Traveling Wilburys. Always wished other famous musicans ( i mean real ones) had taken a cue from the Travelling Wilburys and done something similar and write orginal material and put a record out Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Gerry Rafferty might have been a good combo

As George Harrison told it, they were Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, and George. Recording in Dylan's Malibu studio. George had been round to Tom's house, and left his guitar there. He went back for it the next day, and asked Tom if he was interested.

Personally I would have preferred if Rory G and Gary Moore had got an album together, gibson vs fender?
