I've searched for prices but turned up nothing. For a 7 franchise in Thailand, does anyone know the cost ? Dated info i found and i quote..the master franchise is owned by CP The "Type B" franchise, which requires 1.5MM baht investment, will earn the franchisee between 20k-30k baht per month, and no more, based on meeting specific target results. You are essentiall buying a job as a manager in this scheme The "Type C" franchise, with a 3MM baht investment (and you also provide the location, owned or leased) pays 7-11 44% of gross margin, with the franchisee keeping 56%. A very tight margin business by the looks of it

And if possible, compare it to mom & pop stores in the same vicinity. I'd rather have 56% of 1 million than 100% of 100,000. A good maxim to remember is, Kris - It's not what it costs you, it's what it earns you/

Maybe it is or tgere wouldn't be so many around.

Exactly. Gross I'd suspect Lets look at franchise B option...you drop 1.5m with a prospect of lets say average of 30k/m return....by my reckoning it will take you around 5 years to break even on your 1.5 mil invested...so you have self funded your own salary for the first 5 years and the frachisor had walked away with net They are not giving much away at all

Exactly. Gross I'd suspect I've only ever seen one 7/Eleven go bust. I'm prepared to believe that some of the country/lesser stores are making as little as 30,000 a month. It would need to be net, as the cost of rental and wages for a twenty-four hour operation would far exceed 30,000 per month. You'd need to figure in a wage cost of around 3,000 baht per day per store. Some of the better stores take funny money. I know of stores in Chiang Mai that can't keep up with the Chinese demand. If you told me these stores were netting 300,000 a month, I'd believe you. So it's the same old story - the franchisee's that have the luck or acumen to secure the best premises cream it. Those with remote and secondary stores get by. But here's the thing - I know of a couple of owners who have several secondary shops. I remember IanForbes talking about a girl he sponsored eventually owning three shops, and she financed a fourth shop for a pal. Many Thais would be delighted to own a 7/Eleven and have an income of 30,000 baht per month. Setting aside the money, the prestige of being a 7/Eleven owner sits well with them. Many more would be delighted to own 3 x 30,000 a month. Ecstatic to earn 100,000 a month or more from a prime store. It's not abnormal for franchise holders in any business ( McD's, KFC etc ) to own multiple outlets. I know a guy near me in Scotland that owns four McD's, for example. I reckon you are misunderstanding this business model on several levels. This is a numbers game, where a finely tuned franchisor supplies you with a steady stream of proven winner products. The cash supply comes from cash-rich enterprises - the usual suspects. There's a whole lot of cash that needs to find a home in Thailand. Hey, I noticed a brand new, high-tech, ahem, laundromat, starting up in Chiang Mai Gate recently. Laundry is big business, you know. Remember that when you see seven 7/Elevens huddled together. Anyway, I mentioned the idea of a 7/Eleven franchise to Jear. "No way, too much work," she said........take note time, Kris........."You can make more money supplying water."
