Hope he paid the embassy back. He must be the only person left in this world that doesn't have internet banking where he could just transfer his cash freely. The level of delusion is staggering - but in many cases, essential.
There are several moments in people's lives when they have a choice that will qualify their character. And people of genuine character live their entire lives with that gene at their core. A recent and cracking example -
A detested, snide-mouthed alcoholic was wittering away with his usual drink-fueled bile in Chiang Mai. An eighty-four-year-old guy ( Australian, by the way ) had enough of it and challenged him outside for a square-go. The alcoholic crapped it. In that brief moment, you uncovered the character of two men.
The world is full of pathetic creatures that when given the choice, will always do the wrong thing. Then they'll spend the rest of their pathetic lives creating a false narrative. It's the only way they can live with themselves, and that's a damning critique. As Kris pointed out here, this guy had several ways of having money sent to the country. With a complete lack of self-awareness, he takes to social media to vent his stupidity and failure. He'll be sitting there proud of himself now, having justified why he couldn't have taken care of himself. That's the essential part I'm talking about - he has to lie to himself to get through the day.
He deserves what came his way.
