Can anybody recommend any bars in Bangkok and Pattaya doing Bitter or IPA at decent prices?? Even if it's only for happy hour. The last I have had was the Boddingtons in the Black Swan BKK and Fullers London Pride in the Queens Pattaya. Nothing wrong with either, just looking for some alternatives. Cheers. The Londoners home brew used to be ok, but not been to the new place yet. www.the-londoner.com/As someone whose preferred choice of beer in the UK was bitter or real ales, I have to say the Londoners "bitter" is probably the worst I've tasted anywhere  Even at buy 1 get one free prices they used to do, I wouldn't touch it |

Not sure what you mean buy "decent prices" as bitter IPA etc are always quite a bit more expensive than other beers here. But ignoring the cost. Quite a lot of places stock bottles. Not so many do on draft. Crossbar on Sukhumvit Soi 24, has a few bottles of different bitters/ales, like London Pride, EPA, ESB etc. Similarly the landlord's new bar, Grumpy's Grill on On Nut Soi 77 has a stock of a few of these in the Fridge. Even in supermarkets such as Villa, Tops though etc you're looking 120-140-ish a bottle. Tawandaeng (microbrewery) as mentioned above brews their own and is available on draft. It's more German style of beer. But their dark beer / "dunkel" or ("dunken" as Thais say) slips down nicely. Not a bitter or an IPA, but an OK beer, and my choice whenever we go in there. Does anyone know where Newcastle Brown is available in Bangkok?
Has anyone seen it at Villa Recently?
I know that NBA will probably cost about the same as Moet & Chandon in the Kok but we are allowed to treat ourselves occasionally, aren't we?

A geordie mate tells me that NBA is now only drunk by dossers and students. I have seen it in Thailand but can't remember where.
On the price of bitter anything giving change out of 200 a pint would be welcome. But rare.
I hada pint of Dwyers Cream Bitter a few weeks ago which was fine, especially at 180. I saw a comment online that it is brewed in BKK and they will not state (or can not) state the %abv.

Bangkok, Kiwi suk soi 8. Pattaya, The Butchers soi Little England aka soi BK.. Ps glad to see you have finally found us and made your way over here. The Butchers Arms is currently closed for refurb. Looks like quite a lot of work as well. No re-opening date posted. |
