According to the BBC yesterday, we are getting help from France in detecting the Russian Subs inside UK waters. Having said that. A drinking buddy at the time had a cousin who would not talk about his job. I met him a couple of times. Very unassuming, all he'd say was he worked on boats. My mate did say he once did say he had taken photos inside Arkhangelsk harbour.

Putin is pushing buttons to achieve results on the international front which I think is designed to divert Russian eyes away from their current internal matters where not all is sweetness and light.

I'm not convinced a bunch of thugs are the best people to run a country.
But in the void left after the fall of communism I suppose it was to be expected.
Will one mad enough to start a war emerge?
Let's hope not....beluga and champagne should suffice....ideology is more dangerous.

MJP....
The Cold War never really went away, it just crawled under a rock for awhile. Now with the Ukraine conflict & massive problems inside Russia Putin may well be sending the military on "excursions" just to check what will happen and how fast it may happen. Say...if the "West" decides to heavily prop up the Ukraine, Putin may strike, but strike where...that is why he may be testing the waters so to speak, now.
For those of you concerned about that Russian "bomber" it's a Tu-95MS which is supposed to be cruise missile capable but more likely, knowing old Soviet tactics as well as I do...it just may be the reconaissance version. The old TU-95 is known as the TU-142 these days and it's basically the same aircraft. It does have a 9500 mile unrefueled range though.
If Russia was to strike against the West I do not believe they would use bombers. Why? Too easily shot down that's why. They would use missiles as missiles are faster, not easily destroyed once in flight and accurate enough these days...conventional or nuclear armed.
So...I reckon Putin & his generals are simply testing the waters for responses & response times...just in case they decide to do anything. Which...Putin must know if he & his do strike...that it would be suicide.

The initial target is already established. The question remains on how to take the target without starting WWIII.

I wonder how many on here have ever seen or remember the infamous, "Playboy" photo?
The RAF jets photoed the Russian bears, the Rusian aircrew held up a centrefold for the RAF to get a photo of.
The cold war never ended, the Russkies ran out of money, the Yanks thought they had won and bought into the Military Industrial Complex BS, and then ran out of money.
Never mind as long as Boeing stock keeps rising the Yanks will be happy, never mind they cant afford to buy houses, got to keep the ugly Ruskie bear from the door.
