I'm a bit conflicted - the legislation there looks fair enough, the Belgian legislation has gone too far, people ending their lives because they are depressed. So I'd say they have it right here, over 18 and 6 months to live. You can guarantee though, there will be a campaign launched directly to allow kids to access it, and to make it a year to live. And so it will go on.

I concur, why the eff would I want to spend my last six months in pain in a money making machine held to ransom by profiteering pharma companies.
Guy across the road, cost his family 200k plus, kicked out of hospital because they could no longer afford the inflated prices, taken to the best cancer hospital in Bkk who refused to admit him, he was stage 4, chemo would be a waste of time.
Went to visit him the other week, he is in some cheapo hospital basically on the bobby sands diet, he refuses to eat or drink or take the medicines offered.
They shoot horses dont they.
I now finally understand why some people jump out of condo windows.

Its easy for many on here to knock jolly ole blighty, myself included, never forget you have the best thing ever invented, the NHS.
Uncle Sam can send rocket ships to the moon, he can send his kids off to foreign fields to go and fight the yellow man, but cant provide basic healthcare to those who need it most.
To all involved in the NHS, hats off I salute you, you are the true heroes of the UK and the envy of the world.

I understand that the biggest hurdle was ironing out issues with getting Nana to change her will then bump her off before she changed it back again. Or something like that.

"They must be aged at least 18 and have less than six (or 12) months to live."
So, there are going to be cases where people are living in excruciating pain, but aren't going to be allowed to get permanent relief because the condition isn't terminal. The new legislation really doesn't go far enough.

The new legislation really doesn't go far enough. That is where the other laws come in. No person in Australia has to suffer pain...Pain relief can be given even though this may lead to the eventual death of the patient if the main purpose is to relieve pain. A much overused practice in my opinion often without consent.

How this works in the UK is strong painkilling drugs are handed out nice and early and stockpiled before they are needed.
When the pain becomes unbearable the patient accidentaly overdoses.
Not that I ever said that could happen of course.
No easy answer to this one and I know someone in Bangkok going through the stage 4 issue.
Has few friends and no family and will have a tough time I am sure.
His insurance is holding...but for how long?
He has not enough money for a long drawn out ending....its very sad indeed.

He would not last long but it would be near pain free in a hospice. Or I would head for the hills and watch a sunset consuming some of the local produce

Someone up the road has cancer in her brain. Basically just waiting for her time.
