Have you ever been to a good funeral? I'm going to one today that should come into this category, a natural and expected death of a dear uncle. I'm delighted he's gone because he was ready and willing to go. The other week he spent the entire evening in hospital cuddling his daughter and telling her how much he loved her, but that he wanted to go and see his wife on the other side. My cousin said it was endearing and beautiful. Entertaining story. Friday night saw him in that semi-comatose way that many of us have seen. My nephew was blathering like a budgie on speed at his bedside. After a while, my uncle opened his eyes, turned to said blatherer, and said..... "Shut up, Tommy," Shut his eyes and went back to sleep. Turned out that was his last words. Excellent.

It was my granny's funeral yesterday which sadly I was unable to attend.
A full turnout of course and a packed church and a long afternoon's celebration of her wonderful life.
The current CO of 602 Squadron was in attendance throughout as she was the last remaining wartime member of the squadron.
A sad day for my family.

I get what you mean blether and while tinged with sadness that I'll never again suffer her razor sharp wit nor watch her reduce an inflated ego to zip in a matter of seconds the loss of her eyesight and mobility made her last months very difficult although you would never have heard her complain unless the whisky tumbler was empty or the ashtray went missing.
Both wonderful characters my granny and your uncle...go and celebrate his life with a lot of fun and laughter.

Yep I agree not a good funeral yet. Not possible I don't think.
Old age I'd rather it be known as a celebration of life , or something like that.
Part of life I suppose but I sure miss the close people that have gone and have thought plenty of times I wish they could have been here now to see things happening in mine and families lives.

Went to one not so long back, a very dignified affair. Differences between the guilt ridden west and original sin brigade and the eastern types, those in the east see it as a new beginning and a new life, the guilt ridden west see it as some sort of day of judgement. Waiting for bobby sands across the road to croak it, one things for sure, he wont be hearing the bells this new year.

Personally I'm trying to put my star turn funeral part off for a while, in fact I'd rather not be in attendance.

So are you telling me that giving up smoking as I did some 30 years ago was a waste of time ? One puff again and I"m gone.
