This is for you, Seb.... In education I will focus on. Some on here have backgrounds in education, whether in international schools or as a TEFLR. So where is the money? When deciding, first you need to decide on your lifestyle needs, it is never a good idea to move to Saudi and accept megabucks ( 4k plus going these days with all the benefits) and retire in Thailand or somewhere if the lifestyle doesn't meet your needs. The grind would be too much so think it through before jumping. When you are young and less jaded, the world is your oyster. Building that nest egg is good, some have worked in the M.E myself included. Tax free I did enjoy. Qualifications and experience over youth and enthusiasm. Thailand. Good jobs can be had but real international schools, not some two bit job tefling. Not demeaning those but it is a snake pit, same as mainland China. BeD or BA Masters, PGDE, CELTA, TEFL puts in the ballpark for lucrative work. Make sure you get all the bennies that come with the gig or throw it. HK is my home base. Best place in the world to work and live. Some may disagree but money wise and lifestyle it aces all other places. Sometimes it is all about guanxi ( connections) www.edb.gov.hk/en/curriculum-development/resource-support/net/index.htmlThe founder of this I worked with in Shanghai, one great man. www.cpjobs.com/hk/industry/education-training-jobs/1HK is competitive and hugely diverse, focus on ESF, international schools, Woodlands is good as is Victoria group of schools. Rents in HK are big, Sing tops rents but you can live on any level in HK so I am a fan. Can't beat the nightlife, the vibrancy of the place, the people, the way things 'work'. More later.
