By the way if you do keep out of the picture when negotiating with a school. I know the fees at Mari Ruc in Chiangrai for grade 1 to 6 were 4000 baht a term ..but foreigner families pay much more. Some pay nothing.

We nearly adopted my niece's child not long ago. The niece was saying her daughter would be raised by grandma out in the village. I wasn't gonna let that form of child abuse happen. My wife agreed.
After alot of translating she got the message. If things change then I'd still adopt.

We came close to doing the same, but then figured if we adopt one and give her a polished life in Oz then the other 12 nieces would follow suit.

Its difficult to offer anything else without knowing the ins and outs of why the Canadian family took their father home. Was it to protect assets or out of sheer concern for his wellbeing? That no offer has been made by them could be a lack of funds as you said blether or it could be their priorities are not where they should be. I'd explore that perhaps in an email to them and try to get under their skin. I'm confident you can manage that haha. I'd better do it before I become a teddy bear in the new year then

Adoption seems to be a great money making scam. Friends of mine adopted a Thai girl at a cost of 50 thousand Australian dollars.
Effing joke imo.
There's also for some reason only so many adoptions allowed in Australia per year.
Not sure if adopting a family member counts or not.
